When the Bruins traded Hannu Toivonen to the St. Louis Blues in July of 2007, the piece they got back in return came with a couple of question marks. The uncertainty surrounding the then 21-year-old Carl Soderberg — the player the B’s got in return for the underachieving goalie — was warranted.
Soderberg was a forward with good size, but also with questions surrounding his mental makeup, and he was also coming off of an eye injury.
“Here’s a player they had very high expectations for,” Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said at the time of the trade. “He may turn into maybe not an elite player but a very good player. There were times when he dominated the world juniors when he was playing.”
Just as importantly was the fact that Soderberg may not even play in North America. The final concern came to be, as Soderberg has his entire professional career play in his native Sweden.
Now it sounds like Soderberg is willing to test the NHL waters. TSN’s Darren Dreger reported Thursday ni...

Boston Bruins Place Chris Bourque On Waivers
BOS puts Chris Bourque on waivers.
— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) March 7, 2013
A.B. After playing 18 games for the Boston Bruins and logging a substantial amount of time on the power play, Chris Bourque has tallied just 4 points (3 assists, 1 goal). Today, as Bob McKenzie from TSN is reporting, the Bruins have seen enough. And while Bourque will take a roster spot for the Bruins’...
Bruins Players Each Reveal a Favorite Current Song to Compile Ultimate Bruins Playlist (Music Videos)
When you work in sports television, music is a huge part of your life. It is literally everywhere: in arenas, ballparks, locker rooms, during broadcasts and of course, in your iPod when travelling.
I recently did an interview for thenosebleeds.com about my own music background and was asked to create a small playlist. It got me thinking about what a Bruins playlist would look like...
Patrice Bergeron, Tyler Seguin, Brad Marchand Looking Like Bruins’ True Top Line
BOSTON — The Bruins’ top line, technically speaking, is the line of David Krejci centering Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton. While that is a very nice line, a darn good line even, it’s becoming clearer that it’s not the Bruins’ top line.
That distinction should go to the “second line,” consisting of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Tyler Seguin. That troika was at it...
Chris Kelly Gives Bruins 2-0 Lead Off Assist by Newly Promoted Jordan Caron (Video)
The Bruins have not seen much production from their third line this season, but a new-look version of that line found its way onto the scoresheet Sunday afternoon.
Leading the Flyers 1-0 in the first period, winger Jordan Caron tallied his first point of the season in his first game since being promoted from Providence. Caron initially couldn’t handle a pass from Rich Peverley...
Bruins Place Chris Borque on Waivers
Earlier today the Bruins placed 27 year old Chris Borque on waivers after he racked up just one goal and three assists through 18 games and a differential of -6. The team had been patient with Borque, giving him a healthy scratch on Sunday against the Canadiens and earlier in the season against the Sabres on January 31st.
Borque had been splitting time between the third and fourth...
Seguin’s two goals push Bruins past Leafs to 4-2 victory
After two straight losses, the Bruins returned to their winning ways, beating the Leafs 4-2 behind three-point nights from Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron. The Bruins improved to 15-3-3 on the year with the win and improved to 8-0-1 in their last nine games against the Maple Leafs.
The first noticeable difference in the Bruins game from their last few lackluster games was their...
Milan Lucic Reinforces That Bruins’ Goal Against Maple Leafs Is to Establish Forecheck (Video)
Coming off a pair of losses to the Canadiens and Capitals — two teams that the Bruins were supposed to beat — suffice it to say Boston is looking to return to its winning ways.
On Thursday the B’s are back at TD Garden and set to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs, who after a near-decade of playoff-less hockey are making a run in the Eastern Conference this season. But that being...
Cavalry is On it's Way: Carl Soderberg Wants to Join Bruins After SEL Playoffs
That unicorn in the Boston Bruins organization, Carl Soderberg is making waves once more. Back in January The Bomb wrote this (and we transalted via some translation site):
The Bomb:
Carl Soderberg Boston - now? Yes, many sources say that Boston makes a serious attempt to recruit the elite series målkung to NHL - immediately. The salary of Soderberg said to...
Bruins Regain Defensive Brand of Hockey, Secondary Scoring in Workmanlike Win Over Flyers
BOSTON — The Bruins found themselves in a familiar position in more ways than one on Saturday afternoon at TD Garden.
Thanks to three first-period goals, the B’s took a 3-0 lead to the dressing room after 20 minutes, less than a week after they blew the same lead in a game against the Washington Capitals. There would be no relapse and thus no such collapse on Saturday, though...
Bruins, Maple Leafs Both Enter Divisional Matchup With Plenty to Prove to Each Other (Video)
The Bruins’ last few games have not gone very well. By the same token, the Leafs haven’t been too happy with their last few games against the B’s.
Boston is hoping that trend continues on Thursday night, as a bounce-back win over Toronto would certainly do plenty to quiet the undercurrent of unrest accompanying the team on its latest bump in the road. There’s plenty of season...
Flyers-Bruins Preview
The Boston Bruins have had plenty of chances for revenge since their historic meltdown against the Philadelphia Flyers, and they've usually taken advantage.
Tuukka Rask, however, hasn't gotten one yet.
If Rask is in net for Boston on Saturday against the struggling Flyers, it would be his first appearance versus Philadelphia since Game 7 of the teams' memorable 2010...
Bruins Star Tyler Seguin Photobombs 70′s Disco Style (PHOTO)
(PHOTO: Boston.com)
Bruins fans know that Tyler Seguin is a budding hockey superstar, but perhaps disco ice dancing is in his future as well.
“The Kid” did John Travolta proud as he strutted his stuff for a fan that won a contest to have dinner and share the ice with number #19.

22. Philadelphia Flyers at Boston Bruins. The Garden Smells Like Moldy Cheese and Hartnell's Wife
UGH IT'S AN AFTERNOON GAME! I ******* hate afternoon games man, they're the worst. I mainly hate them because the Bruins absolutely blow donkey balls in afternoon games. I'm not sure what it is, but they seem to never show up for these games. Hopefully, though, the fact that they're playing the Flyers changes everything.
You have to think that the Flyers...
