A familiar face is back in St. Louis. Defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo has signed a one-year deal to return to the Blues, pending a medical exam. The move to bring in additional depth at defense was made after the Blues learned Jordan Leopold will be out for at least two months.  Don't panic quite yet. It's safe to assume Colaiacovo was brought in simply because the Blues have almost no depth at defense beyond Ian Cole. Cole should still be the sixth defenseman while Colaiacovo is a seventh option which has more NHL experience than any of the other options the Blues have in the AHL.  First, let's stop and appreciate the fact that this video is relevant once again: Awesome.  Now, let's look at what Colaiacovo has been up to since we saw him last. After the Blues let him walk after the 2011-12 season, Colaiacovo signed a two-year, $5 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings. Injuries struck almost immediately (shocking, right?). Carlo suited up in ...

With Leopold out for two months, Ian Cole gets his shot

ST. LOUIS -- Injuries often present opportunities for other players, and for 24-year-old defenseman Ian Cole, this could be the best chance he's had to get on the ice in the NHL. The opportunity comes courtesy of Jordan Leopold, who could miss two months with a ligament injury in his hand that will require surgery. The injury, which occurred last Thursday in the third period...

Overtime modifications on table at GMs meeting

Ken Holland has long been one of the leading proponents of extending overtime to decide more games before the shootout, and the Detroit Red Wings general manager said Tuesday he thinks the support for such an action is growing among his peers. Red Wings prospect catchy-uppy post: Griffins win, Walleye up and down, Janmark dodges a bullet

The general rule for a blogger who's missed time is, "Don't play catch-up," but I make an exception in the case of the Wings' prospects. Winnipeg Jets vs Detroit Red Wings Jets 3 Red Wings 2FINAL     The Detroit Red Wings put up another effort and outshoot the Jets sorely, but ultimately fall 3-2 in the shootout. Red Wings Recap 11.12.13

Wings fall in a shootout to the Jets, 3-2. They played well for the most part, but can’t win. More after the jump: Howard has to be better. He’s making too much money to have a goal per game that he regrets giving up. Defend him if you want, but he has been better before. Still, you’re not going to win many games when you only score 2 goals. The team has to find...
