By STEPHEN HAWKINS AP Sports Writer Dallas Stars officials talked about building for the future when they traded captain Brenden Morrow, then dealt away scoring leader Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy. The young Stars still have a chance to make something happen this season. Dallas is still contending for a playoff spot two weeks after Jagr and Roy were traded, deals that came a week after Morrow was gone. With six games left, the Stars on Wednesday were 10th in the Western Conference. But they were only two points out of the eighth and final playoff spot. Stars center Jamie Benn says it was tough losing that trio of veterans. But he says the players came together as a group and are a younger, better and faster team. Success puts playoffs within reach for Stars

The life-cycle of champion teams in sports is often limited to a very short number of years strung together where everything happened in concert to lead to greatness.I say this only because as everyone looks at Chicago as the gold standard in the Western Conference, it was the spring of 2006 when I was at the United Center one spring day with roughly 5,000 die-hard Blackhawks'...

The Penguins are on such a roll, right now, it doesn't seem to matter who is missing from the lineup. Instead, the trade acquisitions went to work and contributed six points and four of the Penguins' six goals. Brenden Morrow score two while Jarome Iginla...
