from Jason Botchford of the White Towel at the Vancouver Province, A bizarre day of Roberto Luongo contract conjecture, fuelled by unconfirmed Internet rumours, exposed the media as a little desperate and a lot sloppy. How bad did it get? The Vancouver Sun was actually duped by a fake Twitter account supposedly belonging to “Bobby Lou” which proclaimed: “The rumours are true we’ve reached an agreement. Very happy to be a Canuck long-term.” The account has long been known as a fake but was used to confirm signing rumours, which have been circulating for months, were true. A headline on the Vancouver Sun Web site late Monday night read: “This Tweet just in: Roberto Luongo locked up.” Meanwhile, the real Luongo, who was not in Vancouver, told people his deal was not quite done but he remained “very confident” it would be soon. The day began with a Sportsnet report titled “Luongo, Canucks agree on extension.” The story got huge play even though it didn’t provide much in the way of new information. continued
