In a shortened season it is very important for a NHL team to get as many points as possible. The Chicago Blackhawks NHL record for points to start a season is in sight now. The Hawks beat Vancouver 4- 3 in a shootout last night to tie the record. This gave them 16 straight games with at least one point. This record matches the 2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks, who went on to win the Stanley Cup that year. This could mean the Hawks are on the way to another cup as long as the streak continues. However when the Ducks accomplished this, they had one less win and one more overtime loss giving them only 28 points. “It’s a remarkable start,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “We’re very happy and pleased. Guys should be proud of the achievement and where they’re at, especially in a 48-game season. It’s put us in a real good spot.” There was a downside to Tuesday’s game. Marian Hossa left the ice early in the third period, due to a hit to the head by Jannik Hansen. This was the same type of hit that to...

The Chicago Blackhawks won (again) Tuesday night, this time against the Vancouver Canucks, but it wasn’t without seeing one of their best players go down after a scary hit (again). Was Jannik Hansen's hit on Marian Hossa intentional?

The Chicago Blackhawks - Vancouver Canucks rivalry intensified on Feb. 19th thanks to a controversial hit from Jannik Hansen to the back of Marian Hossa' head. The play, seen below, featured both men trying to grab a puck out of the air, only to have Hansen's elbow collide violently into Hossa's head.  Was the elbow from Hansen intentional? Hansen knocks Hossa out of game with controversial elbow, suspension coming?

That had to hurt. The Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks played to an entertaining and hard-fought 4-3 shootout final on Tuesday, but Jannik Hansen’s hit to the head of Marian Hossa was what had fans talking after the latest rivalry instalment. Early in the third period Hansen found himself behind Hossa battling for a puck overhead when in reaching up for possession he struck...

Jannik Hansen hit to the head of Marian Hossa

During last night's game, Vancouver Canuck forward Jannik Hansen hit Chicago Blackhawk forward Marian Hossa's in the head  with this dirty hit. This play needs to be reviewed by the department of players safety. There is no doubt that this hit and should have been more than a two minute minor penalty, in my opinion. Rule 48 - Illegal Check to the Head 48.1 Illegal...

Marian Hossa scored twice to help the Chicago Blackhawks post a 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver last night and tie the 2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks for the longest undefeated (in regulation) streak to start a season at 16 games. Hossa’s two goals came as part of a three-goal second period for Chicago and erased the 1-0 lead Daniel Sedin staked them to in the first period. Vancouver...

HockeyBuzz Hotstove: Hotstove: Should Jannik Hansen Face Discipline?

Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I'm your host, Travis Yost. Bit of a scary scene at the United Center on Tuesday night after a tough collision between Vancouver's Jannik Hansen, and Chicago's Marian Hossa. The end-result left Hossa again motionless on the ice, eerily reminiscent of the ugly head-injury suffered from a previous hit laid by Raffi Torres of the Phoenix...
