In a shortened season it is very important for a NHL team to get as many points as possible. The Chicago Blackhawks NHL record for points to start a season is in sight now. The Hawks beat Vancouver 4- 3 in a shootout last night to tie the record. This gave them 16 straight games with at least one point. This record matches the 2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks, who went on to win the Stanley Cup that year. This could mean the Hawks are on the way to another cup as long as the streak continues. However when the Ducks accomplished this, they had one less win and one more overtime loss giving them only 28 points. “It’s a remarkable start,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “We’re very happy and pleased. Guys should be proud of the achievement and where they’re at, especially in a 48-game season. It’s put us in a real good spot.” There was a downside to Tuesday’s game. Marian Hossa left the ice early in the third period, due to a hit to the head by Jannik Hansen. This was the same type of hit that took Hossa out last season during the playoffs and gave him a concussion. A concern for Chicago coming into the season was their goaltending. However, starting goaltender Corey Crawford is third among qualified goaltenders in save percentage.  Backup goalie Ray Emery is twelfth among the qualified goaltenders and has won all six of his starts. The tying of the record also gives Chicago (13-0-3) a chance to move into the top spot alone at home on Friday night against the San Jose Sharks -– a team the Blackhawks have already beaten twice. That’s right the Blackhawks NHL record could be there’s and there’s alone.     The post Chicago Blackhawks NHL record within sight appeared first on The Sports Bank.Net.
