Chicago Blackhawks sign Landon Slaggert to two-year, entry-level contract
South Bend Tribune-USA TODAY NETWORK

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forward Landon Slaggert to a two-year, entry-level contract with a cap hit of $912,500.

The deal will run until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Slaggert recently finished up with the University of Notre Dame, scoring a career-high 20 goals and 31 points with the Fighting Irish. The 21-year-old finishes his college career with 47 goals and 92 points in 136 games while also serving as an alternate captain over the past two seasons.

The South Bend, Indiana native was also nominated for the Hobey Baker Award this year, awarded to the NCAA’s top men’s hockey player.

Slaggert, a winger, was drafted 79th overall in 2020. He spent two years with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program from 2018-20. Slaggert took part in two World Junior Championships with the Americans, highlighted by a gold medal in 2021.

Slaggert’s younger brother, Carter, just finished his freshman season with Notre Dame. Their older brother, Graham, is currently with Rochester in his second pro AHL season after finishing his four-year run with the Fighting Irish in 2022.

Their father, Andy Slaggert, has worked for the school since 1993, currently serving as the team’s associate head coach. He himself had a four-year run with Notre Dame during the 1980s.

According to NBC Chicago’s Charlie Roumeliotis, Slaggert is expected to join the Hawks on Thursday but isn’t expected to see any game action until the weekend.

Slaggert is an energetic forward who can play a bottom-six role and can take space around the net. While he won’t likely be a big-time offensive producer in the NHL, his work ethic should allow him to hang around, at least in the short-term.
