Cristobal Huet will be spending the upcoming season on a different team. Maybe more importantly, he’ll be playing in a different league.

The Chicago Blackhawks have sent Huet to HC Fribourg-Gotteron SA of the Swiss National League A.
Huet lost his starting job to Antti Niemi last season after Niemi outplayed him. Huet posted a 26-14-4 record with a .895 save percentage and a 2.50 goals against average. Inconsistency was a problem with Huet who posted four shutouts but also had nine games where he allowed at least four goals.
The seventh-round pick in 2001 signed a four-year, $22.45 million contract two seasons ago. Many believed Huet would be sent to the minors and therefore would eliminate his $5.6 million salary off the salary cap. With this move, his salary will be removed from the cap but the Blackhawks will still have to pay him in full.
