Chris Osgood Future Hall of Famer?
If you were a street hockey goalie in metro Detroit during the 90’s like I was then you had people driving by your street hockey games chanting at you, “Ozzie! Ozzie! Ozzie!” Those chants had varying tones depending on how well the Red Wings and Chris Osgood were doing at the time.
Chris Osgood announced his retirement Tuesday. He spent 17 seasons in the NHL with four teams, most memorable being, obviously, his two stints with the Red Wings.
Osgood’s tumultuous career in the NHL and with the Wings began in 1994. He took over as a starter in the playoffs his first season and seemed capable of the hot seat. Late in game 7 of the opening playoff round vs. heavy underdog San Jose, he tried and failed to clear a puck out of his own zone resulting in an empty net goal, clinching the series for San Jose.
