This afternoon, Chris Osgood will join the likes of Steve Yzerman, Kirk Maltby and Jiri Fischer as recent Red Wings who have enjoyed successful careers and have gone on to work in the Wings front office.
Osgood, 38 years old, spent much of last year sidelined after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia in January. He went 5-3-2 with a 2.77 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. He was able to earn his 400th career victory last season, something only nine other goalies have done in the history of the National Hockey League. He was the only remaining goalie to wear the helmet/cage combo in net. He is also one of only nine NHL goalies to have scored a goal and one of five to have actually shot the puck into the opponent's net
He finishes his 17-year NHL career with two Stanley Cup rings. Hopefully the Wings will honor him in the future and that Joe Louis Arena hasn't heard its last "Oz-zie! Oz-zie!" chant.
