Sources tell us that Ottawa Senators defensemen Chris Phillips will sign a three year 9 million dollar extension by Sunday evening. The deal will have a NMC for the first year and then a limited movement clause for the last two years of the deal.
The deal makes sense for both parties as Phillips is taking less money to stay in Ottawa where he wants to be and the Sens get the 13 year veteran in the fold to anchor the blueline and mentor the young and upcoming defensemen.
Phillips is a mainstay in the community and organization. He will continue to be one of the key faces of the franchise as they move through their rebuilding years.
Check back over the weekend with more to come as the deal becomes official. But you heard it here first at Prosportsblogging.com
