David Clarkson scored the tying goal for New Jersey in the final minute of regulation, and Ilya Kovalchuk netted the only goal in the shootout as the Devils snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory over the New York Rangers on Tuesday night. Kovalchuk had the first attempt in the shootout and beat New York backup Martin Biron between the pads. That was enough to give the Devils a 9-2 mark in the tiebreaker. Martin Brodeur preserved the win by stopping all three Rangers shooters: Derek Stepan, Brad Richards and All-Star MVP Marian Gaborik. Kovalchuk and Zach Parise also scored in regulation for the Devils, who trailed 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2. Anton Stralman, Brian Boyle and Michael Del Zotto had the Rangers' goals.

The New Jersey Devils (27-19-3) remain in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race after a compelling overtime win over the rival New York Rangers (31-12-5). The One That Got Away

Looking back at last night’s tilt between the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, it was a game that the Rangers should have come away with two points. The Blueshirts had three 1-goal leads that they let slip away in a 4-3 shootout loss at the Prudential Center. While these things happen in hockey, they are things that could have been prevented with better defensive coverage...

================================================ A FANTASY HOMER MOMENT: There are just things that are automatic in life and then there is Ilya Kovalchuk in shootouts lately.  He has missed all but one this year and since he has been in New Jersey, Kovalchuk finds the net more in shootouts than he does not (one glaring whiff aside).  New Jersey would go on...
