Tied for second for points in the NHL, at 48, Claude Giroux is somewhat of a popular guy. And when he joined Twitter this week, that popularity transcended in thousands of puck heads clamoring for his tweets that would follow his first, posted Monday: Philadelphia Flyers' Claude Giroux's first tweet, postedMonday. Under the handle @28CGiroux, Giroux created a mad panic of Twitter users to click “Follow,” while having over 51,000 in just two days. In just 17 hours, according to Broad Street Hockey, Giroux did most of his damage, amassing just under 48,000. To put that in perspective, Paul Bissonnette of the Phoenix Coyotes has 200,000 followers while Alexander Ovechkin has over 288,000 followers. Meanwhile (98 tweets) Boston Bruins Stanley Cup champion Tyler Seguin has over 85,000 followers. And Giroux is up to just four tweets. Matthew Wilson is editor of Center Ice Chat.
