Fightin For Philly:
As expected, Claude Giroux will play in tonight’s preseason game against the New Jersey Devils.
Giroux has been sidelined following surgery after a golf club shattered and cut open his right index finger. After surgery and rehab, he has returned to practice for the Flyers, and apparently feels he’s ready for the next step.
I personally don’t have any fear of Giroux rushing back from the injury. If it were in the regular season, he may have been anxious and been hasty – but this is the preseason. He knows as well as anyone else that he needs to wait until he is 100% healthy.
Our captain is back, folks.
BEST OF MAXIM
Judging from the way Claude Giroux was talking Monday after practice at Wells Fargo Center, I would say the chances of him playing tonight against the Devils, is 50/50 - at best.
There's been a lot of chatter on the internet since he spoke yesterday from fans begging, almost pleading, for common sense to kick in and not allow Giroux to play.
I concur. There is absolutely...
Flyers captain Claude Giroux will play his first preseason game on Tuesday night when the New Jersey Devils visit Wells Fargo Center.
The club “announced” it via Instagram by posting a photo of Giroux’s sweater hanging in the dressing room asking “Guess who’s back in the lineup?”
Giroux indicated on Monday that he would not dress because his surgically repaired right...
Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux has said in the past week that he plans on playing in the preseason game against the New Jersey Devils. His plans have hit a roadblock and he may not play at all this preseason.
Giroux is still recovering from surgery to repair two severed tendons in his right hand after his golf club shattered at the grip during his swing in early August...
On a night when the Flyers' top centerman Claude Giroux made his preseason debut coming off an injury his top right wing went down with an injury of his own.
Jakub Voracek the Flyers’ leading goal scorer last season with 22 sustained an “upper-body” injury during the second period of Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils at Wells Fargo Center.
“It’s not serious”...
Uncharacteristically out of the playoffs last season, the frustrated Flyers turned their summer into a game of fantasy hockey.
Time will tell if they win that game.
Either way, Philadelphia is different.
In came 33-year-old forward Vinny Lecavalier, given a five-year deal worth $22.5 million to spruce up the offense. In came 35-year-old defenseman Mark Streit, given a $21-million...
Last week of Flyers training camp and there are still a couple of roster spots up in the air and a couple of critical decisions that need to be made.
Among them remains the most obvious question since training camp began: What to do with all these defensemen and who is the sixth and seventh man to start the season?
From the four days in Lake Placid to Monday’s practice at the...
Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek left Tuesday’s preseason contest with the New Jersey Devils with what has been diagnosed as an “upper body injury”.
Now, upper body injury is a pretty broad description of an injury, but the center of the injury seems to be his back. Voracek was hooked by the Devils’ Bryce Salvador, a penalty that resulted in a penalty shot. After...

Two years ago, Read led NHL rookies with 24 goals. Read played well in his second season, but like much of the […]

Quick update here ...
Jakub Voracek did not practice with the team on Wednesday at Wells Fargo Center while Wayne Simmonds, did.
Simmonds missed a couple practices and Tuesday's 2-1 loss against the Devils with the flu. He is now recovered.
Vinny Lecavalier told me late Tuesday he is still having some lingering effects from that same flu bug but has not missed anything...
Having grown up in the 1970s as a fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, I have seen my share of bench-clearing brawls over the years. I totally understand why the NHL eventually put in a rule that any player who leaves the bench to join an altercation -- for whatever reason -- will get hit with an automatic 10-game suspension.
The adoption of the 10-game rule pretty much put an end...
