The Bruins are scheduled to have Monday, Feb. 18 off, but a handful of B’s will be making arguably their most important road trip of the season. Bruins head coach Claude Julien and a group of his players will make a trip to Newtown, Conn., on Monday to participate in a variety of events, including meeting with families and signing autographs. According to a release from the team, Chris Bourque, Andrew Ference, Dougie Hamilton, Aaron Johnson, Adam McQuaid, Daniel Paille and Rich Peverley are all expected to attend. Bruins staff members will also be giving out framed team-autographed jerseys to first responders. Bruins alumni Bob Sweeney and Tommy Songin will conduct a street hockey clinic, and the Bruins Youth Hockey Development team will host a cliic with the Newtown High School varsity hockey team. Twenty-six people, including 20 children, were fatally shot in a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14. The vice principal of Sandy Hook, Natalie Green Hammond, will be in attendance at the Bruins’ March 3 game against Montreal where she will drop the ceremonial first puck. The Stanley Cup is also expected to be in attendance, according to the club’s press release.
