After signing with the Oilers two months ago as a free agent, Andrew Ference has been named the 14th captain in franchise history. While Edmonton is certainly happy with the 34-year-old leading their young team, Ference’s former club is also glad to hear the news. Claude Julien thought the veteran defenseman had an opportunity to become a captain once he signed with the Oilers, citing his leadership skills, the way he carries himself on and off the ice and “what he does for a hockey team.” Julien sent his former player a text congratulating him on the news, saying he was incredibly “deserving” of the honor. Check out the above video to hear more from Julien. Filed under: Boston Bruins, Boston Bruins Video, NESN Sports Today, NESN Video, Top Stories, Video
