Buffalo Sabres forward Cody Hodgson humbly submitted his goal of the year candidate on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes and boy was it a beauty.  Hodgson stole the puck from Hurricanes captain Eric Staal at center ice, then toe dragged around Jiri Tlusty, broke into the zone and then walked around Justin Faulk and buried it in the back of the net.  Oh, did I mention the Sabres were shorthanded?  Absolutely unbelievable.  Unfortunately for Hodgson it was late in the game and the Sabres ended up losing 4-3, but this goal was still incredible. Cody Hodgson skates through defense, scores

The great majority of the Buffalo Sabres’ highlight goals this year, have come by way of Thomas Vanek.  Tuesday night, Vanek’s linemate Cody Hodgson got into the act after he pick-pocketed Eric Staal. Following the theft, Hodgson toe-dragged (hockey term) between Staal and fellow Hurricane Jiri Tlusty.  Then, a man-on-a-mission-Pavel-Datsyuk-style, Hodgson skated through Alexander...

Sabres' Kaleta 5 games for boarding

The NHL has suspended Buffalo Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta for five games without pay for shoving New York Rangers forward Brad Richards from behind and into the boards. The NHL's department of player safety announced the suspension Monday, a day after the player delivered the check in the third period of Buffalo's 3-2 shootout loss at New York. Kaleta was assessed a major...

Ryan Miller gets undressed by Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan in shootout

Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller had a rough outing on Sunday against the New York Rangers in the shootout.  Miller is a very good goalie, but he and the Sabres have been struggling this year.  During the shootout, Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan pretty much undressed him and the Sabres were handed their 14th loss (12 regulation, 2 OT) of the year.  Might be time for Miller to work...

Patrick Kaleta suspended 5 games, but is it enough?

On Sunday night during a game with the New York Rangers, Patrick Kaleta of the Buffalo Sabres boarded Brad Richards and caused the Rangers forward to writhe in agony on the ice for several moments. In a phone hearing with the league on Monday, he received a five-game suspension, which is the longest he can receive without the request of an in-person hearing. The next game in which...

GARTH: Petered Out

So much for earning points in five straight games. It took just 91 seconds for the Hurricanes to light the lamp, when Tlusty had his way with Tyler Myers in front of Ryan Miller for his 11th goal of the season. It was all Carolina from that point on. The Canes dominated the puck in the first 10 minutes of the opening period limiting the Sabres to one shot on AHL Charlotte Checkers b...
