The Colorado Avalanche have made the biggest finical deal in the first day of the free agent period by signing ex-Islanders forward P.A. Parenteau to a 4-year deal worth $16 million. Parenteau, 29, has signed his first long-term deal with a franchise after signing six one-year deals over his career.   Parenteau recorded 67 points and 89 penalty minutes in 80 games during the 2011-12 season.  He played alongside John Tavares in New York, which some say helped his stats but Colorado will offer Parenteau the same type of talent at center - Paul Stastny, Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly.

What about Gaunce, Barrie & Elliott

With the Avs having about 25 NHL ready defensemen in their mix right now, I see some people a bit anxious about what happens to Cameron Guance, Tyson Barrie, and Stephan Elliott. I wouldn't worry too much. They three of them are 22, 20 & 21 years of age, respectively. Very young for defensemen.I did some research on Defensemen this weekend for the last two blog posts, and...

Colorado Avalanche making upgrades

The Colorado Avalanche haven't made epic moves today, but the franchise made several moves to upgrade its roster. The big addition to date was forward P.A. Parenteau for four years and $16 million. He broke out the last two seasons for the Islanders, scoring 53 and 67 points. The Avalanche nabbed depth forward John Mitchell, most recently a Ranger. He got $2.2 million for two years...

Which version of Jay McClement are the Maple Leafs getting?

The only real dip into the unrestricted free agent market yesterday by the Toronto Maple Leafs was the signing of 3rd/4th line center Jay McClement.  Jay McClement’s best season in the NHL point wise was in 2009-10 when he had 11 goals and 29 points and last year he had 10 goals and 17 points for the Avalanche so clearly he wasn’t signed to produce offense.  The question is...

Avalanche signs Parenteau to four-year deal

Right winger PA Parenteau is taking his offensive talents to the Colorado Avalanche. Coming off a 67-point season with the New York Islanders, Parenteau agreed to a four-year contract, the Avalanche announced Sunday. TSN reported the deal could be for $16 million. In two seasons with the Islanders, the 29-year-old Parenteau had 38 goals and 82 assists. "P.A. is a skilled...

McClement signs $3 million, 2-year deal with Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Jay McClement to a $3 million, two-year deal after free agency opened on Sunday. The Maple Leafs are hoping McClement can help improve their penalty kill. McClement is a seven-year NHL veteran who spent last season with the Colorado Avalanche. Toronto has been ranked no higher than 24th in the NHL in penalty killing since the 2004-05 lockout...
