After Colton Orr (6’3″ 222 lbs) and Chris Thorburn (6’3″ 210 lbs) mixed it up during the Toronto Maple Leafs-Winnipeg Jets game on March 12th, they went for round 2 on Saturday night.  Unfortunately for Thorburn, like round 1, Colton Orr tuned him up.  The best punch was thrown at about the 36 second mark by Orr.  He worked his arm inside and Thorburn could do nothing but endure the haymaker thrown directly to his jaw.  You can tell by the smile on his face after the fight that Orr knew he won this one decisively. Maple Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens posts picture of nasty bruise on Twitter

Being an NHL goalie isn’t without it’s problems.  Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Ben Scrivens posted a picture of a nasty bruise on his arm on Twitter on Monday and it is impressive.  Scrivens was pulled after two periods against the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday when he gave up four goals and the Maple Leafs ended up losing to Winnipeg in a shootout 5-4.  It’s not clear whether...

Evander Kane turns down Korbinian Holzer’s fight offer, Zach Bogosian accepts

This was a pretty interesting series of events.  Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Korbinian Holzer and Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane were pushing and shoving in the corner and it looked like that they might fight.  Kane knew Holzer was bigger than him and declined Holzer’s attempt to fight.  Holzer had already thrown his gloves off and started to awkwardly pick his equipment...

Toronto Maple Leafs: The losing skid continues

The Toronto Maple Leafs have now lost five straight games and are barely hanging on to a playoff spot after losing to Pittsburgh and Winnipeg. I was very disappointed at the result of the game against the Penguins.  They were a little over two minutes away in the third period of getting a single point, but Sidney Crosby and company scored two unanswered goals to win it 3-1. Tyler...

Tyler Bozak throws incredible cross-ice backhand sauce pass to set up Phil Kessel goal

This is as pretty of a pass as you will ever see.  Almost six minutes into the third period, the Toronto Maple Leafs were trailing the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 when Maple Leafs forward Tyler Bozak threw this incredible pass.  This backhand cross-ice saucer pass was just out of the reach of Jets defenseman Ron Hainsey’s reach and landed perfectly on Phil Kessel’s stick.  Kessel then...

Mike Augello: Rielly To Join Marlies

As has been expected for the last few weeks, the Maple Leafs have assigned defenseman Morgan Rielly to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL with the end of his junior season. “He will join the Marlies this week on the road.” Leafs Assistant GM Dave Poulin indicated this morning on FAN 590’s Brady and Lang show. Rielly, who turned 19 years old last week, was selected...

Peter Tessier: Beware the Ides of March

The Winnipeg Jets are hosted by the Leafs tonight in Toronto on HNIC. IT’s a game that should have a playoff feel to it- much like the one on Tuesday in Winnipeg. The Leafs are on a 4 game skid and Jets are now building their own streak with 2 solid wins, 5-2 over the Leafs and 3-1 over the Rangers. With the most consistent play seen this season from the Jets it might be...

Hockey Fights of the Week: 3/11 - 3/17

It's always fun when two teams face each other multiple times in the same week. Typically, tempers and emotions run high and gloves hit the ice. This was the case when Toronto and Winnipeg met twice last week, skating on March 12th and March 16th. Round one saw Colton Orr upset Chris Thorburn when he continued to throw punches even after he was out of his sweater. The second...

Shooting Practice

from Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star, It’s morning. Time to shoot some pucks. Out walk Clarke MacArthur and John-Michael Liles, to a $100,000 contraption that will let them do just that. Gone are the days of shooting pucks and denting the garage. Or putting up the fake goalie in the net with the five holes clearly marked. In this day and age of high tech and every...

Peter Tessier: Let’s Talk About Burmistrov

FYI the Jets have officially signed Arturs Kulda to a one-year, one-way pro-rated 550k deal for the final 20 games of the Jets' season. I’m not going to review the game from yesterday- let’s put it mildly: the effort was not there. However, the loss presents a whole load of other questions, which may help explain some of Coach Claude Noel’s actions/choices...

Mike Augello: Jets Shootdown Leafs Comeback With Shootout Victory

The Maple Leafs for the second Saturday in a row mounted a furious comeback to gain a valuable point in the standings, but their inability to play competent defensively for an entire game cost them a win, as Zach Bogosian’s shootout goal gave the Winnipeg Jets a 5-4 victory at a sold out Air Canada Center. Toronto played with energy and physicality most of the night, but...

Jets-Senators Preview

The last time these clubs met, the Winnipeg Jets ended the Ottawa Senators' six-game home points streak. The Southeast Division-leading Jets can do that again. Winnipeg will also go for its first seven-game points streak in six seasons on Sunday when it faces a Senators club that could tie a league record for consecutive one-goal games. After the visiting Senators (14-8-6...

Travis Yost: GAMEDAY: Senators Host Jets

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- It took both the Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Senators extra-time on Saturday to best the opposition. Now, they'll turn and face one another in a Sunday afternoon affair as their collective chase for a playoff berth continues. Winnipeg's coming off a wild shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hockey Night in Canada,...

Bruins-Jets Preview

With the lockout-shortened season winding down and playoff races heating up, the condensed schedule is beginning to take its toll on the Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets. Neither team will be getting much of a break anytime soon, either. Boston looks to avoid a third consecutive road loss Tuesday night by earning a third straight win over Winnipeg, which begins a four-game homestand...
