Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Steve Mason debuted his new mask via Twitter, and right away it ranks as the best in the league, top 3 minimum. It’s a picturesque dichotomy between patriotism and film horror, as it pays tribute to the lovely state of Ohio, and the classic Evil Dead movies.
The one side of Mason’s new cage, as you can see here, features the red, white and blue of the Ohio state flag, which is fitting seeing that Columbus is the capital of Ohio. The opposite side, however, is something altogether different.
Ghastly different.

The larger skull on the right, with the piercing stare, is a tip of the hat to the Evil Dead 2 movie poster. The Civil War themed graveyard is just downright creepy…cool but creepy.
Pretty spectacular mask for a pretty mediocre goaltender.
