By Brian Ring Hartford, CT, February 7, 2012 - The Connecticut Whale defeated the Syracuse Crunch, 3-1, Tuesday night at the XL Center in Hartford. Mats Zuccarello, Blake Parlett and Scott Tanski all scored for Connecticut, with defenseman Jeff Woywitka adding two assists. Goaltender Chad Johnson made 23 saves in winning his third straight start in the month of February. The Whale’s victory put them two points ahead of idle Bridgeport for first place in the AHL’s Northeast Division with 53 points. “We’re all playing together and playing well right now,” said Johnson. “We’re more conscious of the score and of what we want to do, which is to get the two points.” The Whale struck first midway through the opening period, taking a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal from Zuccarello 7:31 into the frame. Zuccarello tipped Tim Erixon’s shot from the right point past Syracuse goaltender Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers (25 saves) for his tenth goal of the season, with the secondary assist going to Bren...

The Rangers Could Own The City

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post, The Rangers may skate under the radar through most of the calendar, but they have the pedigree that grants them the ability to own this city the way they did when they won it all in 1994 and even when they went to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1979. The way they have a chance to own this city this spring. Look, this is not a powerhouse team. This is...

Postgame: Rangers Robbed of a Point in Loss to Devils

I'm not going to sit here and sugarcoat a loss because of a bad call at the end of the game, so don't allow the title of tonight's postgame fool you. But the New York Rangers rightfully tied the New Jersey Devils in the third period, 1-1, with just 3 seconds remaining on the clock this evening, however they were robbed of that goal because of poor judgment by the officials...

Jan Levine: Game 50: NYR 5 PHI 2, Dominance Over Philly Continues

The Rangers continued their recent dominance of the Flyers – fourth straight this year and sixth in a row dating back to last year – with a 5-2 win over the Broad Street Bullies. I use the term at the end of the prior sentence as this was a fight-filled contest marred slightly by a hair-pulling tactic used by Tom Sestito during his fight with Brandon Prust (for a good take...

Blueshirts Looking for Offense

While the New York Rangers may have gotten screwed out of picking up at least a point against the New Jersey Devils in their 1-0 loss on Tuesday night, it still does not change the fact that this team is currently having trouble scoring goals. Henrik Lundqvist, Pekka Rinne Voted Toughest to Beat in Shootouts by NHL Players

Say what you will about shootouts, but they're pretty important. That's why it's helpful to have a good goalie who you can count on to stop the other team and squeeze out that extra point for a W. It appears the Rangers and Predators are getting the most help from their goalies, according to a recent poll by Sports Illutrated. Henrik Lundqvist and Pekka Rinne were voted...

Power play concern for Rangers

The main victim of the Rangers’ power play, their own All-Star goaltender, lodged a more-than-justified complaint. “One goal, and it’s the difference. We did a lot of good things on the power play and had chances, but in the end, it is the difference,” Henrik Lundqvist said after the...

Whale's Wellman a Long Way from California Roots
