Looks like Toronto’s biggest offseason acquisition is ready to go … finally. Tim Connolly looks ready to make his season debut for the Leafs tonight against the Rangers. How many games we’ll get out of him is anyone’s guess … think the over / under is around 45 on the season.
The biggest question surrounding Connolly’s return though is not the impact he’ll have, but more the impact we are hoping he will not have. He’s going to center the top line with Kessel and Lupul. Obviously those two have been awesome this year so far. Is Connolly going to come in and disrupt that? Given that he’s a natural setup man, you’d have to think he’ll only help, but chemistry is a funny thing. Connolly joked around with the following.
“I’m just going to try to stay out of their way and try to get them the puck as much as possible.”
It will be interesting to see how it goes tonight. I think Connolly is skilled, can really help the Leafs, but the injury problems, it’s enough to drive a fan crazy. Very wary about signing guys that are always hurt. That being said, it’s his first game, let’s see what he’s got. Gotta beat the Rangers, they will be one of the teams the Leafs are going to need to beat out for a playoff spot most likely.
