CHICAGO - MARCH 05: Goalie Corey Crawford #50 of the Chicago Blackhawks looks on against the Anaheim Ducks at the United Center on March 5, 2008 in Chicago, Illinois. Crawford earned his first career shutout with the Blackhawks 3-0 win. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)
Corey Crawford was considered by some to be a candidate for Team Canada’s third goalie. That job, however, went to Mike Smith, and Crawford was left to wait another four years for his next chance. He’s handling that snub pretty well so far, if Saturday night is any indication. Crawford turned in arguably the best save of his career on Saturday night on a pretty big stage. The Chicago Blackhawks netminder, playing in his hometown of Montreal on Hockey Night in Canada, made his claim for the save of the year. Montreal’s Lars Eller looked all but certain to score a relatively easy put-back goal on a breakaway. Crawford had already made one save, but the second-chance opportunity from Eller was pegged for the back of the net. That’s when Crawford stacked his pads and made a ridiculous save.
