The Chicago Blackhawks have been hit by the injury bug recently, as well as the stupidity bug, forcing them to call up several youngsters up from the Rockford Icehogs.
On Wednesday, the Hawks placed both center Marcus Kruger and defenseman Steve Montador on injured reserve. Dan Carcillo was also handed a seven-game suspension by the NHL on Wednesday, but he also has a serious knee injury and could be out for a while, all things considered.
Of the three Kruger might be the biggest loss. He hasn’t put up the offensive numbers, but had been very strong centering the second line between Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa. Without him, the Hawks have tried out Brandon Pirri and have now gone back to Patrick Kane in the middle of that second unit.
Montador is a big loss simply due to the fact that the Hawks have been forced to play the likes of Sami Lepisto and slow Sean O’Donnell in his place. We’ll get our first view of Dylan Olsen in his place, though, on Thursday.
