ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Mike Smith made 31 saves in another stingy start, helping the Phoenix Coyotes take the Pacific Division lead with a 4-1 victory over the suddenly beatable St. Louis Blues on Friday night.
Patrik Berglund's rebound goal in the first period ended Smith's shutout streak at 234:25 and tied it at 1, but Smith was perfect the rest of the way. The Coyotes won their fourth in a row and extended the Blues' season-worst winless streak to four games in St. Louis' home finale.
Keith Yandle, Radim Vrbata, Shane Doan and Mikkel Boedker scored for Phoenix, and Antoine Vermette had two assists. The Coyotes, who've won the last four by a combined 14-1, can win the first division title in franchise history with a victory in the regular-season finale Saturday night at Minnesota.

Should Blues be worried as playoffs approach?
ST. LOUIS It took just 40 seconds for Blues coach Ken Hitchcock to say everything he had to say about Friday's frustrating 4-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes at Scottrade Center.
Likely repeating the message he conveyed to his players a few moments earlier, the veteran coach wasted little time dissecting the Central Division champs' fourth-straight loss
"This is going...

Division title within reach as Coyotes visit Wild
Never in the 33-year NHL history of the Phoenix Coyotes' franchise has it won a division title. Not as the Winnipeg Jets, and not in any of its previous stops in the Smythe, Norris and Central divisions.
Not even The Great One could lead the Coyotes to the top of the Pacific.
All of that would change with a victory Saturday night.
Phoenix visits the Minnesota Wild in the regular...
Adam French: Division Leaders...For Now
The Coyotes won the game that they had too. They had been manhandled by the Blues this year and were looking at being swept for the season series. This is the fourth win in a row and the Coyotes are getting some of the best hockey out of Mike Smith. They are also getting a nice balance of scoring from up and down the line-up. With the win the Coyotes temporarily take the Division...
First division title within reach for Coyotes
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- In 33 seasons in Winnipeg and Phoenix, the JetsCoyotes franchise has never won a division title.
How big of a deal is that? If Florida clinches the Southeast Division, as expected, only two other NHL franchises will be able to make that same ignominious claim: the Nashville Predators and the Columbus Blue Jackets. Both are recent expansion franchises, with Nashville...
Blues managing to end season on low-note
YES! They have soft pretzels in the pressbox tonight! WOOOOO!
It's great to see how a year of hard work has come down to four fizzling losses in a row (possibly five by the time that you read this) by a team that has done nothing but bust its butt. What's causing the Blues to lose? Relying on skill. How... motivating. Thank you, Mr. Hitchcock. Hard work >> skill. Duh...
Adam French: Who To Play? Who Could They Beat?
This final game has huge significance. The division title is on the line and a win against the Wild would clinch the title for the first time since 1979 when the Jets won it. The Coyotes enter this game on an extreme hot streak; every part of the team is working well and at full capacity. Mike Smith has been unstoppable, the defence hard to crack and the forwards doing their bit...

Oh, how time flies.
Tonight the St. Louis Blues cap off one of the best regular seasons in franchise history by heading down to Texas one last time to take on the Dallas Stars. Will they stumble into the second season with as many questions as they started the first or find the mojo theyâve been missing for over a week?

Fantasy Hockey ONE (4/7)
Here it is! It really is hard to believe but a little over six months comes down to a 15 game Saturday brawl for it all. Now last night there was only one game as Phoenix put in their claim for the Pacific Division title with a huge 4-1 win over St. Louis. If the Coyotes win tonight, then the Pacific is theirs no matter what anyone else does. Despite a slight...
