PLAYERS: Mike Smith
TEAMS: Arizona Coyotes
Mike Smith is the 11th goaltender in NHL history to score a goal and the Coyotes are excited about that. They're also excited about Mike Smith Bobblehead Night on Saturday, November 9th. But how to effectively combine both events into one glorious video that everyone will remember/will be talking about? Stop motion bobblehead animation! Inventive? Yes. Adorable? Of course. Effective? Probably so. I'm nowhere near Phoenix, and I would love to have one of those little guys on my desk. I just hope he doesn't fall down easily when someone bumps him. I would hate for a bobblehead that special to get damaged. [follow]

Coyotes goalie Mike Smith’s empty-net goal re-created with bobbleheads (video)

On Saturday, Oct. 19, Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith became only the 11th goaltender in NHL history to score a goal courtesy of notching an empty-netter against the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings, down by two goals with time running out, had its goalie pulled, and with 5 seconds remaining, Smith took aim and […]The post Coyotes goalie Mike Smith’s empty-net goal re-created...

Mike Smith's goal, re-enacted with bobbleheads

Mike Smith is one of 11 goalies in NHL history to score a goal, but he's almost certainly the only one of those to have his historic achievement re-enacted in bobblehead form. Smith, the Phoenix Coyotes' veteran netminder, shot a puck the length of the ice into an empty net in the final second of a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Oct. 19 -- the puck crossed the line...

Smith, Coyotes beat Kings to avenge ugly loss

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Mike Smith stopped 41 shots, Kyle Chipchura had a goal and an assist, and the Phoenix Coyotes rebounded from a lopsided loss to Los Angeles by beating the Kings 3-1 Tuesday night. Smith had a miserable game in California last Thursday, when he was pulled after allowing four goals on 15 shots in the first period of the Kings' 7-4 win. The Coyotes were sharp...

Message delivered, shorthanded Coyotes down Kings

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- This cycle of events will play out several more times this season. The Coyotes will get a little lax with their structure and defensive game, coach Dave Tippett will growl loudly and the pack will close ranks again. That's what happened in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings at Jobing.com Arena, but the circumstances made it a little more satisfying...

WATCH: L.A. Kings star Drew Doughty takes an embarrassing dive

Hockey players are known as some of the toughest athletes in all of sports. They've earned this reputation by playing through serious injuries and only leaving the ice when absolutely necessary. Drew Doughty is evidently trying to tarnish that reputation as evidenced by his hilariously awkward dive against the Phoenix Coyotes.  Let's recap. Doughty has a minor collision...

Predators-Coyotes Preview

Because of their scoring depth, the Phoenix Coyotes managed to keep their home win streak going despite the absence of one of their top playmakers. With Martin Hanzal finishing up his suspension, the Coyotes hope for similar contributions while earning a fifth straight win in the desert Thursday night against the Nashville Predators. Hanzal was docked two games by the NHL for charging...
