The Phoenix Coyotes' long wait for an owner might finally be over. Glendale's City Council approved a 20-year lease agreement for Arena on Friday, clearing the last major hurdle in the sale of the Coyotes to a group led by former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison. The council ratified the 20-year, nearly $325 million agreement by a 4-2 vote after a sometimes-contentious six-hour meeting attended by Jamison, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. ''We've been doing this a long time,'' Bettman said. ''We believe this team, the Coyotes, can be here with a new ownership in place and should be here.'' Approval of the lease agreement should clear the way for Jamison's group to buy the team, ending a three-year odyssey that's included bankruptcy, failed deals with other prospective owners and the team playing under financial restraints while being operated by the league. Jamison still needs to work...

Bettman May Be Only Person Who Wants A Hockey Team In Phoenix

“I JUST LOVE THIS DRY HEAT!”The saga of the Phoenix Coyotes is a long and troubled one. Moved from the much more hockey-friendly confines of Winnipeg in 1996, Phoenix has had trouble gaining much traction with the local population, failing to post a single profitable season since coming to the desert. Not even the Great One himself, Wayne Gretzky, could turn this Phoenix thing...

The Goldwater Institute said Thursday that its request will be filed at 8:30 a.m. Friday in Maricopa County Superior Court. The institute bases its request...

Coyotes lease vote awaits as judge denies restraining order

The Phoenix Coyotes appear to be staying in Glendale, Ariz., after a Maricopa County judge denied a restraining order Friday on a vote for a proposed lease with the team. The Goldwater Institute, an Arizona watchdog group, had tried to stop a vote on the lease at Arena, which is owned by the city of Glendale. The group argued Glendale had yet to release key lease documents...

Potential UFA target: Michal Rozsival

Don’t laugh, don’t get angry, don’t ignore the rest of the post. I’m serious on this one. Michael Rozsival could be a good temporary solution to the defensive depth issues we saw during the Rangers playoff run this year. His name brings out the boo birds at MSG, and to be honest, it’s easy to see why. Many looked at his contract, that $5 million per year contract, and saw...

Goldwater Institute Seeks Restraining Order

from Cecilia Chan of the Arizona Republic, An economist and an attorney told Glendale leaders Thursday a proposed $325 million Phoenix Coyotes lease agreement would benefit the city financially and pass legal scrutiny, hours before officials for a watchdog group said they will go to court Friday to try to stop a council vote on the deal. It will cost less for Glendale to keep the...

Goldwater Surfaces In Jamison Discussions

The HQ knew it was a matter of time... The Goldwater Institute has sent their warning shot across the City of Glendale's collective bow in the Greg Jamison/Jamison Entertainment Group purchase of the Phoenix Coyotes... They have more questions than warnings at present (especially having to do with the lack of Indian nation involvement, possible violations of the Gift Clause...

(AP) -- The Glendale City Council approved a 20-year lease agreement with the Coyotes on Friday, clearing the last major hurdle in the sale of the team to a group led by former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison.
