The Phoenix Coyotes signed center Martin Hanzal to a five-year extension on Thursday.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The club also announced that goalie Curtis McIlhinney and defenseman Nathan Oystrick were assigned to Portland of the AHL. Right wing Brett MacLean also was placed on waivers and later claimed by Winnipeg.
Hanzal tallied 16 points and 10 assists in 61 games last season while being hampered by a lower-body injury.
He has 46 goals and 79 assists in four seasons with the Coyotes.
