Radim Vrbata had two goals and an assist and Rostislav Klesla added four assists and the Phoenix Coyotes scored six times in the opening period to cruise to a 7-4 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
Martin Hanzal, David Moss, Matthew Lombardi, Keith Yandle and Antoine Vermette also scored for the Coyotes, who snapped a seven-game losing streak - thanks to their big first period that included five goals in a span of 6:40.
The Coyotes' seven goals were just one short of the number they had in the entirety of their skid. Phoenix has scored 10 goals in the last two nights after being outscored 16-5 in their previous six games.
David Legwand, Rich Clune, Gabriel Bourque, and Shea Weber scored for Nashville, which had its three-game winning streak snapped.

Mikkel Boedker has taken a step forward with the Coyotes this year, putting up a team-leading 19 points in 33 games; the 23-year-old is just nine points away from setting a career high in scoring despite the season being cut nearly in half by the lockout.
For some reason or another, local news station ABC 15 concluded that this development would somehow also lend...
It was Steve Sullivan‘s special night. Throughout his career he’d been a late round draft pick, been put on waivers, dressed for more than his fair share of teams and even suffered a back injury that kept him off the ice for almost two full years. He went through all of that but it was all worth it because tonight, in front of the fans that loved him for seven years, Sullivan...

A new suitor has emerged in the quest to purchase the Phoenix Coyotes.
A source familiar with the situation confirmed to FOX Sports Arizona late Wednesday that AltaCorp Capital chairman and CEO George Gosbee is working with long-involved suitor Anthony LeBlanc on a proposal that will be presented to the NHL shortly. The two are part of what the source believes is the lead group...
Names of 232 others had been called in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft before Steve Sullivan finally heard his. The New Jersey Devils called his name with two rounds and some change left in the annual event but not because he lacked skill or impressive offensive numbers. After all, he was coming off a 113-point season with the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

Chad Johnson is trying to inch his way into the National Hockey League every chance he gets. His opportunity right now to start a game in the NHL is due to the loss of star goaltender Mike Smith. This will be Johnson's second stint in Glendale this season.

When the Coyotes awaken Saturday in San Jose, their task will be simple: Beat the Sharks and keep their playoff hopes alive. But general manager Don Maloneys task at this point is anything but simple.
Play out the scenarios and decide what youd do. Say the Coyotes go into San Jose and win to pull within four or three points of the Sharks, depending on whether the win comes in regulation...
The Coyotes and Oilers have made a massive trade.
Prospect Kale Kessy has been dealt for prospect Tobias Rieder.
Alright, it's not that massive, but size doesn't matter, or so I've been told frequently.
Kessy was the 111th overall pick in the 2011 draft, Rieder the 114th in the same one. This is the kind of trade the experts debate about for ages.
The Phoenix Coyotes scored five goals in 8:26 of the first period to chase Pekka Rinne from the Nashville goal and set the stage for a 7-4 win Thursday night. Rinne allowed three goals in the first 3:50 before getting yanked. Chris Mason came on in relief and gave up three more goals before Rinne started the second period and stayed on the ice.

Nashville came into Thursday night’s game riding high on a three-game winning streak, making up for the ground they lost on their last road trip. After Phoenix allowed a goal in the final minute of play against Minnesota last night and lost eventually in overtime, they would bring a seven-game losing streak into Nashville on the tail end of...
