The Coyotes signed defenseman David Rundblad, a restricted free agent, to a two-year contract on Monday. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. There had been speculation that Rundblad, a native of Sweden, might opt for a contract in Russia, but the Coyotes were able to lock up the 22-year-old former first-round pick. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Rundblad played in eight games with Phoenix last year, recording one assists. He also appeared in 50 games with Portland of the AHL, totaling nine goals and 30 assists as well as a plus-eight rating. Rundblad led all Portland defensemen in scoring and ranked second on the team in assists. He finished eighth among all AHL defensemen in points. Rundblad, acquired from the Senators in the Kyle Turris trade in 2012, has one goal and seven assists in 38 career NHL games. He was originally drafted by the Blues in the first round (17th overall) in 2009. Also on Monday, the Coyotes signed defenseman Mark Louis to a two-year, two-way contract as well as defenseman Mathieu Brodeur and forwards Brett Hextall and Brandon McMillan to one-year, two-way contracts. All three spent last season with Portland. Louis appeared in 61 games with the Pirates, totaling three assists and 111 PIM. Brodeur -- the Coyotes' third-round pick in 2008 -- recorded three goals and 16 assists in 65 games with Portland. Hextall -- a sixth-rounder in 2008 -- registered nine goals and six assists in 66 games. McMillan played in just two games with Portland last season, also playing six games with the Ducks and finishing with one assists. He recorded eight goals and five assists in 41 games with Norfolk of the AHL. In parts of three NHL seasons with Anaheim, McMillan has totaled 11 goals and 15 assists in 91 games.
