After Jeff Carter scored a well-timed hattrick during the Los Angeles Kings free hat night, Calgary Flames forward Curtis Glencross became the newest player to have a perfectly timed hattrick.  During the Calgary Falmes game against the Nashville Predators they had a “Western Night,” that encouraged fans to dress up like cowboys.  The Flames had a 3-1 lead going into the third period and that’s when Glencross unleashed his magic.  He netted three goals in the third period en route to the Flames 6-3 win, and the hattrick goal set off a shower of cowboy hats onto the ice.  I’m sure Glencross will be suggesting more “Western Nights” in the future. Eklund: Stars-Flames Game Will be "Scout Central"

Hearing that tonight's Stars-Flames games in Dallas will be "scout central", with an exceptionally widespread plethora of Eastern and Western Conference pro scouts in attendance at a game featuring two clubs on the brink of going into seller mode. Calgary's trade targets, of course, are led by Jarome Iginla and Jay Bouwmeester. The Stars, who have been struggling...

Eklund: Should Flames Eat Salary to Move J-Bo?

Spoke to a source today regarding the status of teams pursuing Jay Bouwmeester. I was told that for the Flames to get "serious" offers closer to what they're looking for (especially in this seller's market for defensemen), other teams want the Flames to eat a chunk of his $6.68 million cap hit before they'd consider upping the offers. Of course, under the...

NHL VP of hockey ops Mike Murphy says goalie policing is a ‘blame the other guy’ business

The Toronto Sun's Mike Zeisberger spends most of his Saturday night notebook discussing a possible Penguins-Flames trade for Jarome Iginla and the league's super-tight standings (48 games instead of 82 have something to do with that) clogging up the trade rumor hotlines, but his conversation with NHL senior VP of hockey operations Mike Murphy is the gem of the column: ...
