Pro Sports Daily:
The Dallas Stars acquired center Derek Roy from the Buffalo Sabres on Monday in a trade that sent forward Steve Ott and defenseman Adam Pardy to Buffalo. Roy, 29, had 17 goals and 27 assists in 80 games for Buffalo in 2011-12. "Derek Roy is a legitimate top two line center, and has been productive throughout his career," Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said in a statement. "He is a proven commodity that helps fill a void at a position of need for our club. We believe Derek helps make our hockey club better and we are happy to have him." Ott, 29, scored 11 goals and added 28 assists in 74 games for Dallas this past season. He also had 156 penalty minutes. Pardy, 28, had three assists in 36 games with the Stars in 2011-12.

The makeover of the Buffalo Sabres has begun with a splash. An established scorer is out. A feisty player with desire is in. The Sabres made an early summer blockbuster trade July 2, dealing three-time team scoring leader Derek Roy to Dallas for left wing Steve Ott and defenseman Adam Pardy. "More than anything else we needed to move the balance of skill versus the physical...
Before getting traded, if you go by just being a regular player on the team, did you know that Derek Roy was the longest tenured Buffalo Sabres player? Yup, with Hecht more than likely gone and Miller only starting 18 NHL games before the lockout, Roy played 49 games during the 03/04 season. Funny, but I can still recall my first Derek Roy moment. I couldn't do that with Vanek...
In the final year of a six-year contract, Roy will make $5.5 million with a salary cap hit of $4 million. — Mike Heika (@MikeHeika) July 2, 2012 … VERY interesting trade here. I really like this deal for both sides.
1) What are the strengths and weakness in Roy? Is he more suited as a number 1 or 2 center?
Roy is a #2 center. Period. Don't let anyone else tell you other wise. Roy is a gifted playmaker. He can See the ice well and can rack up impressive point totals. Problem is he tended to tune out the coach and tries too hard to do everything himself. He can be a lazy turnover machine...
First, I'd like to apologize to you readers for the egregious pun in the title courtesy of my friend Joe (@JoeSzprygada). The opportunity is simply too great to pass up. And, as I like to say, a bad pun is better than no pun at all. So... sorrynotsorry.
Anyway, as you already know, the Sabres' offseason officially got underway yesterday (with respect to the draft and John...
Derek Roy has played in his last game as a member of the Sabres. The Dallas Stars have traded Steve Ott and Adam Pardy for Derek Roy.
Ott will be 30 by the start of the season and was a former 1st round (25th overall) pick by Dallas. Ott made his NHL debut in 2002 and has hit at least 11 goals in each of the past five seasons, with 19 and 22 being his highest.
Ott has also...
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Buffalo Sabres have acquired forward Steve Ott and defenseman Adam Pardy from the Dallas Stars in exchange for center Derek Roy. Sabres general manager Darcy Regier announced the trade Monday. Roy is entering the final year of his contract after underperforming last season for Buffalo. Following season-ending surgery to repair a torn quadriceps tendon in 2010...
The Buffalo Sabres are Ott to trot.
I told you last week that I caught a serious whiff of Derek Roy to Dallas for Steve Ott rumours. Today, the deal came to fruition. Dallas GM, Joe Niewenedyk, needs a play maker to get the biscuit to Jamie Benn, Loui Ericksson, and the newly acquired ray Whitney.

Ott had 11 goals and 28 assists in 74 games with the Stars last season. The 25th overall pick in the 2000 entry draft, Ott has 85 goals and 135 assists in 566 career...
The draft-day trade that sent Mike Ribeiro to the Washington Capitals created a huge need for the Dallas Stars to add a playmaking center to their top two forward lines. Yesterday, Joe Nieuwendyk attempted to fill that need with the acquisition of Derek Roy from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Steve Ott and Adam Pardy.
Roy is coming off a poor season for an underachieving Sabres...
Per the Dallas News’s Mike Heika:

It was getting awfully boring.
While the world was waiting and praying for a decision from Zach Parise on yet another uneventful day in the world of NHL free agency, the Sabres and Dallas Stars decided to shake things up.
Buffalo sent oft-scrutinized center Derek Roy packing to “Big D” in exchange for gritty...
When a player is rumored to be on the trading block for as long as Steve Ott has, there’s only two possible outcomes – they either fizzle out like Jose Canseco’s sex life, or they come to fruition. In Ott’s case, it’s the latter. The Stars have been looking for a top six scoring forward [...]
The Buffalo Sabres mission to get tougher took another step forward this evening when they acquired Adam Pardy and Steve Ott from the Dallas Stars for Derek Roy.
After opening free agency with John Scott, Darcy Regier made a major decision in parting with Derek Roy, part of the post-Drury core. Not only does Roy’s departure rid the Sabres of one of their undersized forwards...
