The shortened NHL season is only in it's early stages, and the Dallas Stars goalie already has a top candidate for save of the year. Kari Lehtonen made a save that not only shocked me when I watched it, it faked out the announcers too. The puck seemed to ricochet off his shoulder and hang in the air for a couple seconds. Lehtonen didn't give up on it and decided to swipe his glove hand behind his back and snag it out of the air. Quite lucky, but quite awesome at the same time. The Blue Jackets would still go on to beat the Stars 2-1 in Columbus, but the Stars came out with the highlight of the night. Check out the save below.

BEST OF MAXIM
The Dallas Stars were in Ohio on Monday night to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the game was light on offense and the Stars came up short on the road, losing to the hometown squad by a score of 2-1, little blame can be laid at the feet of Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen. Among his 25 saves on the night was this stupendous display of goaltending, in which he miraculously makes...
IF AT FIRST...
Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson had Stars goalie Keri Lehtonen beaten for a split second. Johnson’s wrister hit Lehtonen in the trapper, tipped up over the goalie’s shoulder was headed for the net when Lehtonen used his go-go gadget reflexes to reach behind himself for a backhanded snatch. It was part pitcher-fielding-a-comebacker part magician, but it’s definitely the...
A reach behind, mid-air grab.
Check out this incredible save from last night’s game between the Dallas Stars and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Jackets are inches away from scoring the game’s opening goal, but Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen reaches behind his back to rob Columbus defenseman Jack Johnson of a sure tally. FRISCO, Texas (AP) -- The Dallas Stars have recalled defenseman Jamie Oleksiak and forward Antoine Roussel from the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.
Dallas also Wednesday assigned Reilly Smith to Texas.
The 6-foot-7 Oleksiak, a first-round pick in 2011, has 23 points (three goals, 20 assists) in 43 games for the Texas Stars and was an AHL All-Star this season. Roussel...
The Dallas Stars have placed forward Derek Roy on injured reserve with a groin injury, clearing a roster spot for the expected debut of Jamie Benn on Monday night at Columbus.
Roy, who was acquired from Buffalo in a trade that sent Steve Ott to the Sabres, was hurt Thursday against Chicago. He has two assists in four games.
Benn and the Stars agreed on a five-year, $26.25 million...
The Dallas Stars have recalled goaltender Richard Bachman and sent goalie prospect Jack Campbell back to their AHL affiliate.
Bachman will return to his role as the backup for Kari Lehtonen after appearing in two games and winning both for the Texas Stars. Bachman is 1-3 in four starts for Dallas this season, and he got another win when he replaced an injured Lehtonen in the first...
from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News,
Morrow is playing on the fourth line and has logged less than 10 minutes a game in each of the last two outings. He hasn’t seen that kind of role since he wore No. 45 while breaking in as a rookie back in 1999-2000. It’s not an easy decision for the Stars to make, and it’s not an easy reality for Morrow, who has played 812 games...
Eight Bruins have won the NHL’s Calder Memorial Trophy — which is given to the rookie of the year — but winning it doesn’t always necessarily mean you’re on the path to stardom.
While Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque won the award and now have their numbers retired at the TD Garden, some players — including the person who is Tuesday’s answer to The Four’s Trivia Question...
The Dallas Stars haven't been able to close out their last two opponents, but having Jamie Benn back could help if they're in that position again Monday night at Columbus.
So could first-liners Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy.
Benn could make his season debut and Jagr and Roy might return from one-game injury absences as the Stars face a Blue Jackets team that's winless since...
When Ken Holland signed Jordin Tootoo this offseason, he had one role in mind for him – nastiness. Tuesday night, in front of a packed Joe Louis Arena, Tootoo tangoed with two Dallas Stars.
The first was right off the opening face-off with Eric Nystrom. It was obviously pre-arranged, possibly with a “save the date” card.
And his second fight, with Brenden Dillion, was...
Dallas Stars (2-3-1, 5 pts) @ Detroit Red Wings (2-2-1, 5 pts)

Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan
The Red Wings
Like Dallas, the Wings have been off to a shaky start. They’ve alternated between wins and losses so far this season (on track for a win tonight if the trend continues) though their play has looked better the past few games.
The Wings lost...
Let's put all of the serious talk about the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax aside for a few minutes and enjoy some humor.
Even the Dallas Stars got in on the fun by welcoming Te'o's girlfriend to their home opener.
The Detroit Red Wings will face off against the Dallas Stars tonight (7:30 PM EST, FSD Plus, Fox Sports Southwest Plus, AM 1270) hoping to rebound from a disappointing loss against Chicago while playing a team in somewhat similar circumstances.
The Stars have also undergone some roster revisions (see: Ray Whitney, Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy), they've welcomed Jamie Benn back...
