NHL fans across the World are counting down the hours. We are hours away from the puck drop that signifies the start of the 2013-14 NHL regular season. Due to last season being reduced because of the lockout, it has arguably made the anticipation for this season more significant. Dallas Stars fans are among the most eager. The Dallas Stars rebuilding process kept most NHL enthusiasts very interested on how it would work out. If the preseason is any indication of how the Dallas Stars will perform this year (which most will argue is NOT an indication), it is going to be a remarkable season. Dallas won five out of their seven games. Their two losses were both in overtime. This put them tied for first in points for the preseason with Washington (who played one more game than Dallas) and Boston. The Stars also scored the second most goals for NHL teams during the preseason, only one behind Washington. They also kept the puck out of their net, tying for fourth in least goals against. Has Tyler Seguin found his spot? Seguin’s successes in the preseason games indicate that his personality issues have taken a back seat, and that his new atmosphere in Dallas will allow himself to be the talented, youthful player that he is. Jamie Benn stepping up into his leadership roles. Jamie Benn (center) posing with his assistant captains after being named captain. As I discussed back in July, Jamie Benn was the likely candidate for the new Dallas Stars captain. On September 19th he was named the official captain of the Dallas Stars, the sixth in franchise history. Jamie Benn now needs to continue to be the leader that the Dallas Stars will need, especially to ensure that younger players such as Valeri Nichushkin and Tyler Seguin stay with a game-set mind throughout the entire season.   The Dallas Stars start their regular season October 3rd, 6:30 (Mountain Time) against the Florida Panthers.
