If the Dallas Stars get their way, Derek Roy‘s name won’t feature in trade rumors for much longer. According to Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, the club is currently working to negotiate a contract extension with Roy ahead of the April 3rd trade deadline. Fortunately for the Dallas club, the 29-year-old center seems to want the same thing.“They’ve been talking, so it’s been good,” Roy said. “Me and GM Joe Nieuwendyk have had a talk, too, so that’s good. But, like I said, I can’t focus on that or my game will go downhill pretty fast. That’s why I hired an agent Larry Kelly. Obviously, with the shoulder surgery right away, they wanted me to be at my best, and be here for a long time, so it shows they really care for the players,” he said. “It’s a great organization here, I like it here, so it’s just a matter of trying to get it done.”Derek Roy has proven to the Dallas Stars that despite injuries in recent seasons he was a smart off-season acquisition from the Buffalo Sabres.
