Remember all that hullabaloo between the Toronto Sun and Pension Plan Puppets over a translated article? One of the teachable moments from that mess was how unreliable ye olde Google Translate is when compared to a flesh-and-blood translator turning gibberish into quotable gold. So, is former Dallas Stars winger and current unrestricted free agent Jere Lehtinen retiring? Sportsnet believes so in its headline "Lehtinen to retire," citing "an online report" in saying that Lehtinen is "ready to retire." (Actually, they had it as "Jeri" Lehtinen, so maybe he's the one retiring.) The online report in question (s/t Hockeyutopia) is likely this article from a Finnish publication today which, through the magic of Google Translate, reads: Lehtinen, 37, met the Dallas CEO Joe Nieuwendyk in last week, but that did not take place, that category should be continued. Lehtinen did not participate in training camp in Dallas. Seriously think about a care...
