On February 15th 2009 Dan Bylsma became the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Four months later Bylsma led the Penguins to the third Stanley Cup Championship in the franchise’s history. The Penguins defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games to reach hockey’s holy grail. Dan Bylsma was born in Grand Haven, Michigan. Dan attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio and played ice hockey there. He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the sixth round of the 1989 NHL Draft but never played a game for them. The Los Angeles Kings signed Bylsma as a free agent in 1994. Bylsma split time between the AHL and NHL and played five seasons in the Kings organization. He then signed with the Anaheim Ducks in 2000 but never had a steady career in the NHL and retired in 2004. Bylsma was coaching the Penguins AHL affiliate the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins during the 2009 season.
