Daniel Alfredsson is returning to the Ottawa Senators' lineup. The captain pronounced himself fit to play Game 6 against the New York Rangers on Monday after taking the morning skate at Scotiabank Place. Alfredsson missed the last three games with a concussion after being elbowed by New York's Carl Hagelin in Game 2. The 39-year-old star rejoins a Senators team that leads the first-round series 3-2 and can finish off the series with a victory over top-seeded New York. Prospect Jakob Silfverberg also took the morning skate with the Senators one day after joining the team from Sweden.

Senators captain Alfredsson making 'progress'

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson skated Saturday and is making "progress," according to team head coach Paul MacLean. Alfredsson has been sidelined for the past two games of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the New York Rangers due to a mild concussion. He did not accompany his team to New York for Saturday's Game 5. Rangers rookie Carl Hagelin...

(Oh, ah) Silfverberg has arrived

"I'm now a very emotional Sens fan." This is the message I received from Jakob Silfverberg's older sister last night, at 4 a.m. Swedish time. It’s safe to say that the focus of the Silfverberg family has quickly shifted from the Brynäs playoff run to that of the Ottawa Senators. Same goes for the most interesting person in that family (apologies to former SEL...

Senators are Canada's last hope in NHL playoffs

The Ottawa Senators, the last Canadian team left in the NHL playoffs, are welcoming all aboard the bandwagon. ''Lots of room. We've got a big one,'' forward Jason Spezza said Monday before facing the Rangers in Game 6. The Senators haven't found themselves in this position since 2007, when they advanced to the Stanley Cup final and were beaten by Anaheim...

Del Zotto to Be Suspended for Hit on Neil?

Last night late in the third period Michael Del Zotto caught Chris Neil with his head down behind the net......hope Del Zotto told Neil "that was for Boyle" after destroying him with that devastating hit....normally not a fan of a player getting injured, but I had a big ole smile on my face watching Neil lay there on the ice after being dropped like a sack of potatoes.And...

Milan Michalek Potentially Facing Discipline

Per TSN's Darren Dreger, Milan Michalek could be facing supplementary disciple for allegedly using his skate to kick Rangers defenceman Dan Girardi in the groin. The action itself supposedly occurred during the third period's last minute goal mouth scramble in which Jason Spezza scored. Below is the broadcast footage from NBC Sports: If you pay attention near the 16 second...

Travis Yost: Sunday Take: Chris Neil Avoids Discipline; Defending Brendan Shanahan

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- After a 2-0 shutout victory in Madison Square Garden, the Ottawa Senators have effectively pushed the New York Rangers to the brink of elimination. An eight seed about to drop the pride of the Eastern Conference in the first-round? Pretty newsworthy. And yet, the lead in the Sunday papers has shifted from the potential upset to a controversial...

Jason Spezza's controversial goal - Rangers nation not happy

This is one of the reason that I love playoff hockey. There is so much going on in the game and the players take it up a notch from the regular season. Unfortunately, the right call isn't always made or is it? Here is the controversial goal that was scored by Senators' forward Jason Spezza. It would appear from the video that Chris Neil going hard and crashing the net...

Henrik Lundqvist on controversial goal: “Someone wanted the Senators back in it”

Photo Credit: NorthJersey.com With under a minute left in Game 6 of the New York Rangers- Ottawa Senators playoff series, Senators’ forward Chris Neil scored a goal, making it 3-2 Rangers while bringing the Senators within one goal. However, after a few replays, it apparently seemed as though Neil had illegally kicked the puck into a net, an illegal play which would have nullified...

Chris Neil Not Suspended and Alfie Set to Return?

Much to the chagrin of the insufferable John Tortorella, Chris Neil will not face any supplementary discipline for his hit to New York Rangers forward Brian Boyle. In his post-game press conference last night, Torts drew parallels between Neil's hit and the Raffi Torres hit on Marian Hossa; even going so far as to say that Boyle had sustained a concussion and that the NHL has...

Video: Michael Del Zotto Drills Chris Neil

… LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!  Hate Chris Neil with a passion, guy is a punk.

GARTH: Consistency? What Consistency??!!

Count me as a guy who stands firmly behind John Tortarella. Chris Neil is a frequent offender. He's a guy with a jones for smoking his opponents with late hits while they are not looking. Neil did it again Saturday night when he cold-cocked Ranger forward Brian Boyle. Did Boyle have the puck on his stick? was in in a prone position? Did he see Neil lurking? Was it...

Derek Stepan hits Chris Neil

This was from yesterday's Rangers and Senators game. Very nice check by the former Wisconsin Badger and Rangers forward Derek Stepan on the Senators forward and tough guy Chris Neil. It's a text book body check. Related articles Chris Neil will not meet the Shanahammer Anderson Blanks Rangers, Ottawa Takes Series Lead Kyle Turris helps Sens tie series...

Michalek kicks Girardi

This is the kick that everyone has been discussion on line today. If you watch the video you will see that Ottawa Senators forward Milan Michalek actually kicked NY Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi during the closing minute of the third period of game six. This Michalek kick happened during the scrum on the controversial Jason Spezza goal. The Senators were unable to get the...
