For years a team trip to the White House was considered an honor, and certainly not a time to make waves. However, with the increased polarization of politics, sports has become more politicized, too, and more and more athletes and others from the world of athletics feel compelled to speak out. Tim Thomas certainly made those types of waves a year ago when he declined to join the rest of his Boston teammates to visit President Obama. Los Angeles Kings forward Dustin Penner, about to head to Washington D.C. with the rest of the Stanley Cup champions, recently took a shot at Thomas via Twitter, questioning why anyone would pass up a free trip to the District of Columbia. However, it turns out not all of the Kings are so apolitical. In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Los Angeles head coach Darryl Sutter says he plans to use his opportunity to get the president’s ear on one of the many controversial issues currently being mulled in Washington. Sutter says he plans to lobby in favo...

Dustin Penner mocks Tim Thomas prior to White House visit

We've laughed with and at Dustin Penner plenty of times over the past few years. We couldn't help but laugh at his back injury which occurred when he was reaching for a bite of "delicious pancakes". Every Rose has its Thorne – a tribute to Gary Thorne and Bill Clement

Once upon a time, hockey had its own golden era of television. A time when the worldwide leader, ESPN, was committed to televising hockey and in doing so, brought us some memorable hockey broadcasters – John Buccigross, Steve Levy, Dave Strader and the perennial mullet man, Barry Melrose. But the crème of the crop of ESPN Hockey announcers was Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. As...

The Los Angeles Kings visited the White House on Tuesday to be recognized for their 2011-2012 Stanley Cup title, and by all accounts it appears all members of the team were able to attend. Drew Doughty’s incredible rush leads to goal in last-second goal

Had Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty scored on this rush it would have gone down as one of the best goals of the year.  Instead, it merely becomes one of the hardest earned assists of all-time and the best goal that Doughty has never scored. With time close to expiring in the second period, Drew Doughty got the puck in his own zone with five Chicago Blackhawks in front...

Anze Kopitar set up the score by winning a faceoff...
