This just isn’t going to go away. As mentioned in the, “Mad Dash,” new Red Wings acquisition Kyle Quincey spoke to Yahoo Sports’ Nicholas J. Cotsonika about fact that Saturday night’s opponent, the Colorado Avalanche, has a bunch of unrestricted free agents-to-be, and that continued uncertainty as to the team’s direction has some of those unrestricted free agents-to-be wanting out: “Everyone is ready to get shipped out any day,” Quincey said. “There’s a lot of guys, their bags are packed beside the door, and they wouldn’t be unhappy to go – trust me. I know I had a big smile on my face, and all the guys were jealous. I think there’s a bunch of guys that were pissed off they weren’t in a package deal.” And why is that? Quincey said a lot of guys feel they “aren’t getting their opportunity” in Colorado. But mostly he talked about players wanting a chance to win and the insecurity players can have at this time of year. Coming off a 4-1 victory over the Kings on Wednesday nig

Holland erases error by getting Quincey

Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland likes to describe his job as winning today with an eye always on tomorrow. Its a simple philosophy to manage by, and nobody does it better than Holland -- even if he makes a mistake or two along the way. With the reacquisition of defenseman Kyle Quincey from Tampa Bay on Tuesday, Holland corrected one of his few miscalculations. He...

Thoughts on Quincey & his comments

So there's been big drama in Avalanche land lately. First Kyle Quincey was traded to Tampa, where they turned him to Detroit, for a 1st round pick. So we'll start there. I don't really like this trade. Not that Downie won't help the Avs. I think he brings some of what the Avs need. Some, to borrow a hockey cliché, "sandpaper" to the lineup. But I feel like...

Dater: Quincey offers an apology for comments

Some scattered hockey thoughts for a Sunday, a day before the NHL trade deadline: • After getting to his new team in Detroit on Thursday, former Avalanche defenseman Kyle Quincey made some incendiary comments about the situation he left behind.

Come On Home, Son And Bring That Serial Killer With You

Tick Tock Kenny Holland has told us all he made a mistake when he waived Kyle Quincey.  Three years later, because it’s the Winged Way, he’s brought him back to Hockeytown.  That’s what Holland does, you know.  He lets them go with a promise that if they behave and improve and drop him a BFF text now and again? A spot will open up and it’s home again, home again. Quincey’s...

Quincey explains his assertion of Avs

Kyle Quincey scored a goal in 21:32 of ice-time in his first game with the Red Wings Thursday night. He'll play against his former Colorado teammates Saturday at Joe Louis Arena. (Pho...

Kyle Quincey excited, nervous as Red Wings take on Canucks tonight

As much as Kyle Quincey feels surefooted and confident joining the Detroit Red Wings tonight when they host the Vancouver Canucks (7:30 p.m., FSD), he doesn't want to be the reason the Wings' 23-game home winning streak ends.

Detroit vs Vancouver: Down Goes Luongo

Detroit welcomes Vancouver to the Joe tonight in hopes of extending their record setting home winning streak to 24. The Canucks however have their sights set on ending the streak tonight.Puck drops at 7:30pm on FSDClick the jump for more Kyle Quincey will make his return to Motown tonight after Ken Holland fixed the only mistake he has ever made as a GM, when he kept Meech and...

Red Wings-Canucks set-up and overnight report: it’s not about the streak (and some trade talk)

The Detroit Red Wings, new arrival Kyle Quincey and the re-signed Todd Bertuzzi will attempt to continue their NHL-record-setting home-ice winning streak when they tangle against the Vancouver Canucks tonight (7:30 PM, FSD/Sportsnet West/NHL Network U.S./97.1 FM). As noted on Wednesday night, the Canucks came into town insisting that they will make history tonight—as the tam that...

Quincey comes full circle

Quincey's Impact on the NHL Trade Market

The Tampa Bay Lightning stayed busy on Tuesday with their third move in the span of a week. Lightning GM Steve Yzerman dealt Dominic Moore to the San Jose Sharks last Thursday, moved Pavel Kubina to the Philadelphia Flyers the next day, and then yesterday picked up Kyle Quincey from Colorado in exchange for Steve Downie, before dealing Quincey to Detroit for a first round pick just...

Let’s hear it for small-market hockey

The Avalanche jettisoning of defenseman Kyle Quincey and adding of winger Steve Downie in the three-team trade Tuesday can be justified in the competitive sense. I get that. Colorado had a numbers issue on defense and needed more grit, or at least grit with some talent accompanying it, at forward. But two additional things jumped out at me, and I couldn’t resist saying them from...

Red Wings-Avalanche set-up and overnight report: Wings need to skip style points versus Avs

The Detroit Red Wings, now the Western Conference’s second-place team, hope to break a two-game losing streak (cue Chicago on Tuesday and Vancouver on Thursday) as the Wings take on the Colorado Avalanche tonight (7 PM EST, FSD/Altitude/97.1 FM) with the Wings concerned about far more important things than the now-probably-addressed squabble between Kyle Quincey and his former...

Red Wings Recap 2.23.2012

I'm bitter. Howard played great and line 1c was incredible, but all the talk will be about Vancouver snapping the streak. Whatever.Full recap after the jump: The icing call was terrible and it cost the Wings the game. Plain and simple. Still, if the whole team had played well, it wouldn't have mattered. Franzen seemed bored out there on the PP and the fact that he was...

Vancouver 4, Detroit Red Wings 3 (SO): Oh, shoot! Wings' home win streak ends at 23

Jimmy Howard protected the Red Wings through one subpar period, then another. Newcomer Kyle Quincey and the third line helped in the third. Ultimately, the Wings came up short, and their record-setting 23-game home winning streak ended.
