After nearly seven months, the position is vacant no longer. David Backes has been named the 20th captain in franchise history. David Backes - Image via Scott Neer The 62nd pick in the 2003 draft was acquired by the Blues in a trade sending Cory Stillman to Tampa. With that pick Backes was selected. After three successful seasons at Minnesota State – Mankato where he registered 46 goals and 119 points in 115 WCHA games he transitioned in to the AHL. Spending parts of two seasons with the Peoria Rivermen. The 2007-08 campaign was Backes’ first full tour in the NHL.
