Da Great White Hype:

Nik Antropov, one of two players the Rangers acquired at the NHL Trading Deadline today.
Since John Tortorella has been annointed the new coach of the Rangers, he has had five players depart either by trade or waivers and three new players added to the roster either by waiver claim or trade.
One of the new players added by GM Glen Sather is Sean Avery--a player Tortorella recently critized on TSN as an analyist after Avery's suspension by the NHL while with the Stars:
"The league stepped up here and I think they did the right thing. Enough is enough. He's embarrassed himself, he's embarrassed the organization, he's embarrassed the league and he's embarrassed his teammates, who have to look out for him. Send him home. He doesn't belong in the league."
Not only does this create an akward situation with the coach, but also with the organization after Avery was unable to come to terms with the Rangers during last offseason on a new contract...bolting for Dallas which turned out to be an awful decision by Avery.
Along with the addition of Avery, the Rangers added F Nik Antropov and D Derek Morris, playes who both have expiring contracts and about no chance of staying in NY after this season. The Rangers gave up Nigel Dawes and Petr Prucha, players both limited this year offensively at least under former coach Tom Renney (wasn't everybody). The Rangers also released D Erik Reitz, who they traded for mid-season, and Aaron Voros, both physical defenseman.
Unfortunatly these moves will not be enough to push the Rangers into Stanley Cup contention, nor better themselves for the future. Loaded and unmovable contracts of D Wade Redden, C Scott Gomez and C Chris Drury all but spell the blueshirts unable to make future moves in FA.
