Decent offensive defensemen can play a long time in the NHL. Sunday brought more evidence of this as veteran Joe Corvo returned to Carolina as a free agent and Filip Kuba returned to Florida.Kuba got nice money: two years for $8 million. He will turn 36 this season, but he is coming off a stellar 32-point, plus-26 campaign for Ottawa. Kuba was a great influence on young Erik Karlsson. He figures to replace unrestricted free agent Jason Garrrison, who hit the market after a 16-goal season on the Florida blue line.Corvo had 40 points two seasons ago in Carolina, with 23 of those points coming on the power play. He returns to the Hurricanes after a so-so season (25 points, plus-10) in Boston.
