Michael Del Zotto had an extremely promising rookie season during
the 2009-10 season recording nine goals and 28 assists as a 19-year-old. With that display the expectations for the New
York Rangers defender were sky high going into his sophomore season. Instead Del Zotto has his play deteriorate to
the point that he was healthy scratched at the NHL level and demoted to the AHL
multiple times. It was unclear what to
expect from Del Zotto for this season because of how badly his confidence deteriorated
last year, but the Rangers have to be pleasantly surprised with what they are
seeing thus far.
Many fans will not let Del Zotto get over last season, but it
is time to move on and judge him on what he is doing this year. The fact is Del Zotto is doing exactly what
the Rangers want and need for him to do thus far. In 11 games thus far this year he has one
goal, three assists and is a plus seven.
More important than the numbers is the level of confidence that Del

It’s a good look for him. He scored a beauty of a goal in the first period and also logged over 27 minutes of ice time in the Rangers 5-3 win. Really impressed with MDZ’s effort tonight. Photo Courtesy of Pat Leonard, and the Daily News.

… well deserved for MDZ who has been playing his butt off as of late. Getting back on defense and not staying up in the o-zone rush is what catches my eye more lately than ever when it comes to Del Zotto’s game. Now if we can get him to stop passing the puck so [...]

Pregame: Streaks On the Line as Rangers and Habs Square Off at MSG
The New York Rangers enter tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens -- the first between the two this season -- having won their last two games against the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks, and with a 5-3-3 record on the year. The Canadiens, on the other hand, have won their last four games after struggling early, and are 5-5-2 in their first twelve games. Both clubs have...
Rangers Start Another Winning Streak
The New York Rangers have started a bit of a winning streak after deating the Anaheim Ducks last night 2-1 in a shootout, giving them two straight wins in as many games.
Much like when the two clubs met in Sweden back in early October, this was an exciting game that saw timely goal scoring, some good physical play and great goaltending from Jonas Hiller and Henrik Lundqvist. The...
Del Zotto Top 10 in Plus/Minus
TheNYRBlog reader Shiv S. points out to me in an e-mail that Michael Del Zotto is currently tied for 7th in the NHL in plus/minus with a +7 (via NHL.com)......i killed Del Zotto during his -20 rookie season, so I've got to give him major props here. Sure plus/minus doesn't tell the whole story of a defenseman (See Marek Malik +32 during 2006-07) but it must mean he's...
Bell, Biv, Deveaux
Love this pic of the Rangers watching on as Andre Deveaux tussles with Anaheim's George Parros during last night 2-1 shootout win for the Rangers....Deveaux, who I thought had a strong camp, has impressed the heck out of me his first two games. In limited ice time the guy has made himself noticable every time he's on the ice whether it's a fight, a hit or a nice play...
Rangers' Kreider Continues Domination For Boston College
Last summer there was a push amongst many to have Chris
Kreider (2009 1st round pick) turn pro even though he had a subpar season at
Boston College. The idea behind it was
that you get him in the professional ranks with the New York Rangers and let
them take over his development. Part of
the theory for some was that Kreider seemed bored with college hockey and was
not going...

The Rangers are making plans to borrow close to an additional $3.975 million of cap space by placing Marc Staal on Long Term Injury exemption in conjunction with personnel moves that will bring the club as close as possible to the cap before taking the step on the alternate...
Rangers get last laugh in beating Ducks
NEW YORK (AP) - Marian Gaborik made up for a frustrating night by scoring in the last round of a shootout to give the New York Rangers a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday night.
Gaborik gave goalie Jonas Hiller a head fake, then a litt...
Rangers, Anton Stralman Agree to Terms
By Alexander Monaghan
President
By Resolute (Own work)
The New York Rangers certainly bolstered their blue line today, agreeing to terms with unrestricted free agent Anton Stralman. After not receiving a qualifying offer as a restricted free agent of the Columbus Blue Jackets, Stralman hit the market as a UFA. He then failed to sign with the New Jersey Devils following their preseason...
