Last night late in the third period Michael Del Zotto caught Chris Neil with his head down behind the net......hope Del Zotto told Neil "that was for Boyle" after destroying him with that devastating hit....normally not a fan of a player getting injured, but I had a big ole smile on my face watching Neil lay there on the ice after being dropped like a sack of potatoes. And of course the Canadian media immediately comes to Neil's aid...Del Zotto is 100% getting suspended for that. Clearly targeted, blindside headshot on Neil. Long run to deliver it too— Eric Engels (@EricEngels) April 24, 2012
...the NHL should close up shop if they decide to suspend Del Zotto after passing on a suspension for Neil's head shot on Brian Boyle. And how does Neil respond to the hit after the game? (via Canadian Press)..."I'm sure I'll catch him (Del Zotto) with his head down one of these times."...what an idiot. Neil just neutered himself as the refs will be watching h...

No suspension for Neil: Fair or foul?
News this morning broke that Chris Neil would not have a hearing –thus no suspension– for his hit on Brian Boyle that knocked the Rangers most dominant skater in this series* out of the game (and likely season) with a concussion. The hit (video below) had Boyle looking down at the puck while skating over the middle, and Neil specifically seeking him out ad delivering the hit...
Report: Chris Neil Won't Be Disciplined for Big Hit on Brian Boyle Despite John Tortorella's Displeasure (Video)
Brendan Shanahan has ruled with an iron fist this postseason, but it doesn't look like he'll be calling Chris Neil into his office any time soon. Neil delivered a crushing blow on Brian Boyle of the Rangers during Game 5 of the New York-Ottawa series on Saturday, which led to Boyle suffering a concussion. Multiple reports indicate that Neil will not have a hearing with Shanahan...

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Ryan Callahan (finger) was given a maintenance day today.John Scott filled in for him on line rushes....assuming unless Callahan's dead, he'll be in the line-up tomorrow night.Meanwhile, Steve Zipay at Newsday notes Brian Boyle (concussion) said he felt "ok" after leaving the training room this morning. Boyle is expected...

After a 2-0 shutout victory in Madison Square Garden, the Ottawa Senators have effectively pushed the New York Rangers to the brink of elimination. An eight seed about to drop the pride of the Eastern Conference in the first-round? Pretty newsworthy. And yet, the lead in the Sunday papers has shifted from the potential upset to a controversial...
Chris Neil Not Suspended and Alfie Set to Return?
Much to the chagrin of the insufferable John Tortorella, Chris Neil will not face any supplementary discipline for his hit to New York Rangers forward Brian Boyle. In his post-game press conference last night, Torts drew parallels between Neil's hit and the Raffi Torres hit on Marian Hossa; even going so far as to say that Boyle had sustained a concussion and that the NHL has...
GARTH: Consistency? What Consistency??!!
Count me as a guy who stands firmly behind John Tortarella.
Chris Neil is a frequent offender. He's a guy with a jones for smoking his opponents with late hits while they are not looking. Neil did it again Saturday night when he cold-cocked Ranger forward Brian Boyle.
Did Boyle have the puck on his stick? was in in a prone position? Did he see Neil lurking? Was it...

Senators’ Chris Neil Encourages Crowd While Fighting Rangers’ Brandon Prust
About fifteen minutes into Game 6 between the New York Rangers and the Ottawa Senators, it became more of a WWE match than a hockey game. Somehow, in the middle of his tussle with Rangers’ forward Brandon Prust, Chris Neil of the Senators signals the crowd to “get loud” while still trying to fight Prust. Check it out:
Prust Alters Series With Bout Against Neil
Games 2 through 5 we watched as Chris Neil dominated the Rangers physically without a care in the world as John Tortorella inexplicably stapled Michael Rupp and Stu Bickel to the bench.Well Brandon Prust finally had enough and could have changed the course of the series by doing this with the Rangers down 1-0 in the first period...
...i don't care that Prust lost...
Replacing Boyle in the lineup
When Chris Neil took out Brian Boyle with a questionable hit on Saturday night, he took out the Rangers most effective forward. He took out their leading scorer, top defensive forward, and top penalty killer in this series. He took out the only player that has managed to get under the skin of the Senators. It’s a big blow to the Rangers, and not a player easily replaced. The best...
Goaltender Interference Should Have Negated Spezza Goal
In his weekly article at TSN, former referee Kerry Fraser weighs in on the controversial Jason Spezza goal from Monday night in which the NHL review booth confirmed that Chris Neil did not kick the puck in..."Henrik Lundqvist and Chris Neil both knew that the Rangers goalie was pushed off the puck by Neil's stick. The entire hockey world watching on television saw that Lundqvist...
Henrik Lundqvist on controversial goal: “Someone wanted the Senators back in it”
With under a minute left in Game 6 of the New York Rangers- Ottawa Senators playoff series, Senators’ forward Chris Neil scored a goal, making it 3-2 Rangers while bringing the Senators within one goal. However, after a few replays, it apparently seemed as though Neil had illegally kicked the puck into a net, an illegal play which would have nullified...
The NHL’s inconsistencies surrounding goaltender interference
Goaltender interference is a nebulous topic that often generates heated debates and a forgivably vague understanding of the actual rule on the play. It is forgivable that most fans don’t know exactly how to apply the rule, since the rule itself is written so vaguely.
NHL Rule 69 ,“Interference on the Goalkeeper” is explained mostly in the context of allowing or disallowing...
