Found June 05, 2012 on Nightmare on Helm Street:
Why not get side tracked a little today by looking about six months down the road to one of the bargaining chips that we thought we had to keep Lidstrom around one more year *sigh*.From the Detroit Red Wings' Official Site, there's a preliminary schedule that has been released in regards to the Winter Festival that Detroit is putting on in honor of the 2013 Winter Classic and the game of hockey itself.  Once again, Detroit will be setting the bar extremely high for all others to follow with over two weeks of celebration of the game we all love so much.Make the jump for more details. All of the events below will be taking place at Comerica Park - the site that SHOULD HAVE hosted the actual 2013 Winter Classic Game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and our beloved Detroit Red Wings.  I'm all for breaking attendance records...but the backdrop of the Renaissance Center and downtown Detroit would have made an absolute wonderful setting for these two teams to skate to.  This ...

Red Wings overnight report: answers and insights about moves to come aren’t supposed to satisfy us

While Don Cherry’s spent the past three Coach’s Corners completely ignoring Nicklas Lidstrom, and Sports Illustrated of all places countered by positing an absolutely glorious photo gallery commemorating the career of someone SI’s Stu Hackel describes as the “MVP of his era” (it’s pretty hard for me to stop tossing off superlatives here…I’m going to miss it)... Days...

The Cherry snub of Nicklas Lidstrom continues

You’ll have to excuse this very partisan Red Wings fan for espousing “sour grapes,” but Hockey Night in Canada’s Don Chery mused upon what has become quite the lop-sided series, broke in a black version of his, “Technicolor flowers you’d see on an acid trip” suit pattern, and spent much of Coach’s Corner comparing Drew Doughty to Bobby Orr… But over the course...

Red Wings overnight report: Nick’s job opportunities, draft/trade targets and audio of me blabbing

After an incredibly busy and emotional week and weekend for Red Wings fans, punctuated by the recently-retired Nicklas Lidstrom being feted by the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Friday night and then taking out a full-page ad in the Detroit Free Press’s Sunday edition, we spent some time talking about the Wings brass’s organizational meetings, the team’s draft strategy, and, mostly...

Red Wings overnight report: on accountability, the Wings’ future, lockout talk, Shanny and Iron Hook

On a strange day of radical ups and downs, from the Red Wings’ release of its Winter Classic lead-up events’ schedule to discussions of Todd Bertuzzi’s legal woes and a story I plain old refuse to cover because it’s far too bizarre (click at your own risk, my friends, click at your own risk), and then Bryan Rufenach‘s passing… Continue reading "Red Wings overnight...

Many teams, the Red Wings included, are worried that puck possession hockey’s gone extinct

The Globe and Mail’s Roy MacGregor is on a crusade, as he always is when he writes about hockey. Whether he’s talking about concussions, fighting, prescription drug abuse, the nature of the game or his technical area of expertise in its “Canadianness,” and tonight, it’s no different. MacGregor took an interview most Wings fans have yet to hear, from assistant GM Jim Nill...

From all the information available via the Toledo Blade’s Mark Monroe, the Lindsay Post‘s Jason Bain and other sources, Red Wings prospect Bryan Rufenach was backpacking through Europe with a childhood friend and died accidentally due to some sort of electrical mishap. This morning, the Red Wings posted a press release acknowledging Rufenach’s passing… RED WINGS MOURN THE...

Red Wings mid-day news in progress: a Cup anniversary tease and repetition

Given the staccato nature of the Red Wings news cycle, I’m guessing that as soon as I head out the door for a 90-minute appointment, I’m going to miss a big story, just as penning that, “well, there isn’t much going on right now” overnight report gave way to news about Darren McCarty‘s personal life, the Wings’ decision to sign Max Nicastro... And, later in the morning...

Sigh…Bertuzzi legal news

Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi’s legal issues remain part of his baggage, so, per the CBC’s Michael Drapak... Lawyers for Todd Bertuzzi and Orca Bay, the company that owns the Vancouver Canucks, have lost an appeal to keep secret the details of an agreement that shares costs between them should they lose a $38 million lawsuit brought against them by Steve Moore. Moore’s...

Imma let you finish, LA, but fifteen years ago, the Red Wings won their first Cup of the modern era

This feels like a Kanye West post, but the Detroit Free Press’s posting of a Mitch Albom article recalling the morning of Game 4 against the Philadelphia Flyers some 15 years ago for one Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman gave us all a heavy hint that, over the next couple of weeks, Detroit’s press outlets will remember what was the Wings’ first Cup in 42 years and their first...
