Detroit Red Wings’ J.T. Compher out day-to-day
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde announced that forward J.T. Compher will be unavailable for tonight’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes and is listed as day-to-day.

Lalonde also provided an update on captain Dylan Larkin, Larkin is back on the ice and is considered day-to-day as well.

The 28-year-old has tallied six goals and 13 assists for 19 points in 24 games while averaging 18:53 minutes of ice time. Compher hasn’t played since the Red Wings’ Dec. 5 matchup vs. the Buffalo Sabres.

Compher spent the 2022-23 campaign with the Colorado Avalanche, where he registered a career-high 17 goals, and 35 assists for 52 points in 82 games. He added two points in seven Stanley Cup Playoff contests as the Avs were ousted by the Seattle Kraken. Compher was a part of the Avs’ 2022 Stanley Cup championship-winning squad; he tallied 33 points in 70 games that season and added eight points in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff contests

The Northbrook, Illinois product was initially drafted by the Buffalo Sabres No. 35 overall in the 2013 NHL Draft. His rights were dealt to the Avalanche, and after a dominating NCAA season as captain in 2015-16 that saw the Wolverines win the NCAA B1G championship and Compher get a Hobey Baker Award Finalist nod after notching an NCAA-leading 47 assists, he embarked on going pro. He made his NHL debut in 2016-17. During his rookie campaign, he notched five points in 21 games and added 30 points in 41 games while playing for the Avs’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.

Meanwhile, Larkin was on the ice skating this morning which is a telltale sign that he is on the verge of returning to the lineup. Having both Compher and Larkin back in the Red Wings mix will be an early Christmas gift from Santa.
