On Monday, the Detroit Red Wings signed defenseman Brian Lashoff to a three-year one-way extension worth $725,000 per season. The 22-year-old would have become an unrestricted free agent in July.
Detroit has suffered a rash of injuries on its blue line this season, but the team called up Lashoff to see what he could do. The 6-foot-3, 212 pound defenseman was signed as an undrafted free agent and has spent parts of the last five seasons with Grand Rapids Griffins.
Lashoff made his NHL debut on January 21, 2013 against the Columbus Blue Jackets. He scored his first NHL goal that night. In 15 games with the Red Wings, Lashoff has scored one goal and added two assists while posting a plus-three rating.
