If you thought that things couldn't get any worse then you haven't been watching Red Wings hockey over the last month. The final ten games of the season kicked off Monday night vs Washington with a 30 minute effort that saw the Wings fall 5-3. Tonight they play the east leading New York Rangers at MSG

We learned yesterday the Jimmy Howard reaggravated his groin, and with Joey Mac already out with back spasms that left Detroit with one option. Recall Ty Conklin. He's been playing well and building confidence since being sent to GR back in February, but the issue is he will have to clear re-entry waivers. Who would want a guy that went 3-5 with a 3.40 GAA and .878 SV%? Well, a team that would like to kick Detroit while they are down. Chicago? San Jose? the Islanders?

If by noon today another NHL team plucks the Conks of the wire you will see the NHL debut of Jordan Pearce, who has zero NHL experience.

I feel like I have been saying this over and over. The Wings need to win and they need to win now. It's doubtful that they will catch St. Louis at this point, They are tied with Nashville yet have a lower ROW which puts them in 5th, but thats not the worst part. Chicago is now two points back Yes, the same Chicago that we has a comfy 10-12 point lead on for a good chunk of this season.
Here is the silver lining. If Detroit does drop to 6th I would feel very comfortable playing the Stars or the Coyotes if they take over the division. That would leave Nashville and Chicago to beat the crap out of each other. If you really look at the teams that are in it, its not very scary. St. Louis is good, but they are just too fresh to really make a run when REAL hockey starts.

Tonight's game will have to be won even strength. The Rangers have the 29th worst power play and the 5th best Penalty kill. Let's hope the Wings don't give them any gifts.

Full 60 minutes tonight. Same lineup as Monday night.

INDIVIDUAL CAREER LEADERS vs. RED WINGS:
Henrik Lundqvist — 4 GP, 0-3-1, 3.78 GAA
