In an attempt to once again shake up the lineup, New Jersey Devils head coach Pete DeBoer will start star winger Zach Parise at center tonight against the Los Angeles Kings.
Parise will be paired with Ilya Kovalchuk and Nick Palmieri on the team's first line, as Patrik Elias will slide to the two line with Danius Zubrus. Parise last played center during the 2007-2008 campaign, but only appeared at the position in two games.
“Obviously with Joe and Zajac both out, it’s something that was sitting in the back of our minds that he’s played center before,” DeBoer told Tom Gulitti. “He’s a versatile guy and he seemed like the best candidate considering the circumstances.”
This will be the first time this season that Parise and Kovalchuk will be paired together on the same line. Parise is currently tied with Elias for the team lead in goals (3), while Kovalchuk leads the team in assists (4).
